Neither are bad for him, but they're also not doing him much good. 2 or 3 pieces of bread for a dog the size of a beagle is like you eating 2-3 bags of chips, and I'm not talking the snack-size ones. One slice of bread is probably more than he needs at any one time. It's not going to hurt him, but it's going to fill him up and then he won't be eating the dog food that does meet his needs, and that could hurt him eventually.
Tomatoes are good for him, and for you. Again, one tomato is probably more than he needs. You could give him a weekly snack of 1/2 slice of bread with a fat slice of tomato on it and that would be fine, but I'd say that any more than that at one time is probably too much "junk".
Don't forget that sudden changes in his diet (ie eating 3 pieces of bread at a time!) could cause him to get diarrhea or vomit.
Just do it in moderation.
On a side note, don't worry, my dog loves bread, too!

Vets offer science diet, because its financial agreement....is it healthy for canines? Doubtful, and Many say its complete garbage. I'm with the garbage crowd. Its said science diet is given away to the vets, because if a vet offers it, your more likely to use it. This according to a store owner that knew a vet, that was given pallets of it for free. That's the same reason Dr.s prescribe certain brands, a kick back$$$$. A bonus for getting you to buy their preferred poison. Most vets have succumbed to the financial gain. But you can be sure any vet that knows anything about nutrition, won't be feeding it to their dog. & if they truly care, or have True knowledge of the damaging effects of prednisone, they wouldn't hand that out like candy either. If their dog had thrombocytopenia, you can bet they would give them vitamin k instead. $6 bucks for a bottle that will last nearly a yr. Bread is not good for dogs if you lace your dog with chemicals the vet sells, it probably doesn't matter

My dogs eat just about anything... Bread and tomatoes are just fine, but in moderation. I would keep tomatoes as the "special treat" on occasion -- only because they are so acidic, and that might not be great on your dog's stomach. It's okay to spoil him every now and then :)

Both of my dogs love tomatoes also.
They go and pick them from the garden. Around here if you want tomatoes you have to keep the dogs away from the garden or they get most of them.
They are fine for dog to eat no harm and most likely good for them.

Well, he's already 10, so it hasn't hurt him so far. He has unusual taste for dog, but I don't think it'll hurt as long as you don't over do it.
Your description of him is funny.
