Well, living out in a rural area as I do many of the farmers use the same method to neuter thier dogs as they do for thier cattle, I have seen it many times and not one of the dogs has been hurt in any way. Now at first I would have reacted like everyone above me, but after having seen it done I am not so freaked about it, the dog does not seem to be in any pain after the initial pinch of the elastic, and as long as you keep the area clean and use a antibacterial spray like the stuff they spray on horses, there is not infection and the balls fall off in about a week. Most of the time the dog eats them...lol gross but true. In any case I would never do it to my dog but I have seen it done before and the dogs did not act any differently, and it is better than contributing to the pet overpopulation. Also I find it intruiging that people think its ok to do it to cattle but not dogs...hmm You cant have a double standard, you are either against it or you are not...cows are just as emotional as dogs and they can feel the same things dogs do.
PS I have to warn you the balls get pretty stinky right before they fall off..lol
PSS I also find it ironic that the vets around here cut off a pigs testicles without any numbing first using a razor! and they also do the same to bulls or use the elastic method....and yet they think it is cruel to use an elastic on a dog?? makes no sense!! You cant have it both ways!

That is a false notion. That will not only cause the dog pain and discomfort, but it may lead to more medical problems.
Do the proper thing and go to a vet or a low cost clinic and let the professionals do the job.
If you needed a tooth filled, you wouldn't use the drill in your garage, would you?
Think about it, and do what is the best for your dog, not what is convient to you.
When you get an animal it should be your #1 priority...No question!

Can you castrate a Johnell by tying a rubber tightly on his balls, and it will fall off naturally in a week?

No, more likely it will cause gangrene and kill the dog in a messy and painful way. Where do people get these idiotic ideas? If you want a dog, spend the $$ and have it properly done by a vet. It's not that expensive, and you'll still have a living pet.

Absolutely not. I can't imagine why someone would even think that would work. By the way, doing this is animal cruelty, and can be reported to the humane society. You'll just cause the dog alot of pain and medical problems.

No dont do it. Just take him to the vet. If you cant afford it or something, just give the dog to someone that would care for him. Dont be selfish. It is not cool or funny to do this! It is called ANIMAL CRUELTY!

No! That is very cruel. They must be removed by a vet. Banding is a technique used for lambs, when they are almost brand new.
