Because it's attributed with giving you powers and they believe that any powers that don't come from god come from the devil... since yoga isn't mentioned in the bible it must be a satanic power.
They are idiots, 'nuff said.

The serious answer is this:
On the "breathing" part/issue. Not EVERYONE breathes right or properly. Serious. Yoga doesn't teach it either. Yoga teaches extended breathing and a sense of calm and an "emptying of the mind." Its this "emptying of the mind" along with rhythmic breathing that most people feel induces a kind of hypnotic state. During hypnosis, you and your mind are open to all forms of demonic attack with "no one at home" so to speak. There are no safe guards on your mind, your open to suggestion and to the world, all they have to do is enter or "suggest" to a more or less empty vessel.
This is the main reason for the dislike of Yoga and Hypnosis. Also hypnosis can open your mind to further lapses into fugue states (or short states of forgetfulness) much like highway hypnosis, where driving home from school or work, you look up and your in the drive-way but don't remember how you got there. Your just so used to the ride/drive you "block" it out. Same for reading a good book, they can call your "name" but you don't hear them, finally, you come "too" with everyone looking at you.
These are forms of hypnosis or dissociativeness, and they can get worse.

The very word Yoga means to join or unite. Well, who or what are you uniting with? Not for all but for some there is the understanding that as Christians if you adopt pagan practices then you could also be invoking whatever spirits there are related to that religion. Everything not of God is demonic. While the actual physical excersize and meditational pracitices of "yoga" could be used with Biblical principles leaving out the chanting mantras and "spiritual" invitations and etc...say you just use the excersize while praying and meditating on the Word of God then I see nothing wrong with it..but it wouldn't be yoga then would it? The specific connotations of Yoga are for self enlightenment, joining yourself together with "god" entities and so forth. Though also as with most eastern religions its all relative and there are no absolutes. You see for Christians, the act of communion with the spirit of God as we become the temple or the church of Christ happens at the recieving of Christ as our savior. There is only room for one spirit in this temple and that is the Holy Spirit of God. To adhere to any other religious practice would first of all be useless and secondly be serving two masters..something Jesus warned about profusely even in the giving of the 10 Commandments. So yeah...I'd be real careful with that...and I'd be picking my Bible up if I were you. Love in Christ, ~J~ <><

Because they do not understand that there are other forces of nature that can allows humans to do things that are beyond their 5 senses. Anything thing that looks unusual to them is attributed to the devil. They do not have any expanations for things besides, classifying them under good or evil. They wanted the bible to tell them about every thing including laptops DVD's, and Yoga. If the bible did not mention those things it automatically means that they originated from evil. God has put in us the ability to obtain innerpeace by ourselves , so that we don't have to bother him all the time with those silly demands, so how can trying to obtain that for ourselves means invoking demons. This makes no sense.

The movements put into sequence DO actually invoke other "gods." Each sequence is intended to call upon or invite a different "power" into you. Look into the history of yoga as a religion and you will find that this is true. Those who think it's merely streching are deceived.

I dose not invoke demons... but it is more than just stretching and breathing... if it is practiced at it's full intended level it can make one vulnerable to demon posession. As it places the body into a dreamlike near coma state. very few who "practice" yoga even know of it's deeper level... just as most all who dabble in wicca, and such practices, do not know of the much more sinster levels... All of these practices are ones that can be used by the forces of evil to decieve people away from God... And can lead some into actual contact with the forces of evil... Note: I said some...not all... but why take the chance... no one needs chants, mantras, spells etc... to effectivly stretch, relax, and breathe

Yoga originates as a connection with God. A spiritual connection. Christians don't believe that god is the same one as the Bible God.
But one can surely practice Christian Yoga. They have a book out there for Christians. The bible writes to meditate on the true, lovely, good reports, etc... One can stretch any way & meditate on God's Word any day.
The Word of God writes to cast down any imagination exalting itself against the knowledge of God. To try to be without thought would be wrong if one tries to remove God's love in the process. Abide in His Love & Word & ask Him what you will. God created us to exist in his Love & Word and not to become nonexistant.

If you want to know why, you need to look into the history of yoga.
To a Hindu, yoga is a technique or a discipline that leads to union with a great supernatural force or spirit. It has been described as "the yoking of all the powers of body, mind and soul to God."

Because it does... But so what? I like Demons. Most Christians are not aware that demon labor is what built the temples of Solomon. The buddhists evoke and control them through meditation both in themselves and outside their bodily restraints. and to a demon, Om shanti is like a top 40 hit, they like to do a little jig and sing a little demon ditty to it.. LOL
Everybody sit full lotus and hum "om mani padme om" and grab your favorite vice, habit or problem (otherwise known as demons) and sing and dance it all away.... Like white birds and bubbles off into the horizon...
Sheesh people, lighten up with the questions and the answers.

i have considered this question requested such countless situations in Yahoo solutions, as non secular human beings attempt so desperately to come back to words with the actual demanding information of technological understanding and their own beliefs. The Bible rather obviously says an afternoon "and the morning and the evening develop into the first day". Are you going to assert that milleniums have "mornings and nights"? it really is the position you need to verify if, the middle of your beliefs are incorrect, or the bible is incorrect, or perhaps if volumes of evidence and documentation is incorrect. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++... I also discover interesting, as your next reaction, at the same time as confronted with yet another obstacle, "morning and evening were the first day", the way you arise with yet another impressive theory to make your own beliefs in good structure. it really is merely uneducated desperation. like the contributor below stated, you could count on technological understanding and be non secular, yet you've gotten to confess that the Bible is incorrect.

Some Christians believe that breathing invokes "demons."
There is no rational explanation.
