Or might an atheist decide to join Christianity after reading a YA responce? Or does this Christian/Athiest rivalry have no end?

Let's face it there is no end to this. Christian's are going to re-affirm their belief in God, and atheist (atleast a vocal minority, if not the majority) are going to continue to call them names.

THere is no end in sight. and the truth is neither may be right. If you are a christan and become an athiest you were never a believer to start with. if you are an athiest and you become a christian then perhaps you are in search of something more than you are as a person.

I don't think YA offers the environment to redirect a Christian away from the basic faith. 99% of the answers I've seen are reactive and with little explanatory power (including 75% of mine).

"Getting religion" is much easier, especially if you're dealing with a young audience in search of all-encompassing answers. Some of these "seekers" approach this forum as "unbelievers." In that state they are obviously more susceptible to glowingly optimistic promises of eternal life, happiness, and a sense of belonging to a cause. Contrast that with my message that would say there's absolutely no purpose for their existence outside of itself and what they make it - and that when it's over, it's really over. Even my exhortations about the glories of knowledge, discovery, and helping humanity, will often fall short of the delusional expectations found in youthful hearts.

When looked at that way, reality is harsh and truth is even harsher. I'm actually surprised that for every 2 people who claim to be Christians, you can find a thrid who claims to be a non-believer.

It takes a while to conceive of joy in mere human existence and fellowship.

Because of talking to me I have so far disconverted three fundamentalist Christians. They aren't atheists, but they are not willing to blindly follow any longer what they were "told".

Same with a guy who believed in the Big Bang because he was "told"; after talking to me he was willing to find out why he was told. The Big Bang may have happened I never said it didn't I just don't understand why anyone would believe ANYTHING religious or scientific without understanding why someone is telling them that.

It's the last one. People are not happy simply to trust God. They have to be the only one to get the riddle "right," be smarter than everyone else, and proceed to use it to find fault with everyone else.

No it doesn't end. Step out of the circle and join a few open minded.

I think anything is possible... who knows, maybe one person will read another person's comment and change their view about what they believe in... but that migt be just one in a million.

I think people should respect other people's opinions... since no one know for sure if there is a God or not, you are entitled to believe in what you want as long as you're not hurting anyone...

Not a chance, but I feel stringer in my beliefs having spoken with and listened to the ideas of other atheists and Christians alike.

There is no end. People making up their own minds for the first time may be swayed, but I don't thing YA is going to convert anyone.

I've recieved many emails from people who want to leave christianity once and for all. They ask how I did it, how I dealt with family on the subject ect...
Trust me, christians leave thier cult, atheists are intelligent enough to know to stay away from such nonsense...
