I think that there is a shortage of trees in this bad old world, cos us nasty humanites chopped a lot (over 50%?) of them down. What I reckojn should happen is that everyone gets given a tree by the government or a company and your nearest and dearest has to plant it when you die! And your memory could live on in the tree, (you could put your ahes under it) and you could help by making the world greener after your death.

This sort of scheme would work well in the UK, where most of our ancient forest is sadly gone. The tree could be named 'tree of life' or something.

I read that there is such a thing now as organic burial, with biodegradable caskets to make it easier to "go back to the earth",so the one guy's idea of being burried under the tree and rotting to help it grow is feasable in the near future.I think your idea could be bumped up a notch, and improved a little.I'm going to plant a tree for each of my children.I have 15 so it will make a difference.I'm teasing,I have 2,so I'm also going to plant one for my husband and maybe one for my mom.If my favorite tree falls down,I'll get another one for me.I wouldn't wait until the person dies.Let them know they have a tree.If we survive a few more years,my boys will get to see their trees growing with them.Don't wait on the government to give them away.If you join the Arbor Day Foundation, you can get 25,I think, your choice, for 25 dollars.Good deal. You could even split that with someone if you don't want that many trees.

It is a good idea but let us look at the facts rather than the emotive stuff. There are more trees in the UK now than there have been for 400 years due to tree preservation and extensive planting.
Don't make the world a worse place than it actually is.

You could also, plant a tree when a baby is born to celebrate life! That sounds like a better memory to me and then you get to care for your tree your entire life!

Good idea but I would forget the burning/ashes thing because it emits lots of GHGs. Getting burried underneath and rot to feed the tree would be a more eco-friendly solution.

There are many people who already do this on an unofficial basis, and not only for humans, but also for pets.
It is a good way of remembering.

We've been doing this for years in my home city of Manchester. I think it's done in a lot of places. I agree with you, it's a very good idea.
