If I were your parent, which I am a parent of teens, I would want you to have a cell phone so I could get ahold of you in case of an emergency or when I wanted to keep in touch with you when you were away.
Say you went out with some friends and I was supposed to meet you to pick you up at a specified time. You weren't there. Without a cell phone, there is no way I could verify where you were or why you were late. I think it relieves a lot of stress and confusion that creates better communication between parents and their children. There is no room for miss-communication or misunderstandings, because...you are always a just phone call away.

You don't Kiddo!
I used to have one and each month the bill was astronomical. We went over our minutes all of the time and were ruled by our cell phone. So we got rid of it.
You obviously live in the age of entitlement but you are not entitled to anything. If you get a job and work to keep your phone working, then maybe. But you really don't need a cell phone. In fact I hate seeing young people traipsing around with cell phones. It's ridiculous and they speak so loudly, especially on the bus. It seems like a show-off tool.
By the way did you know that over 50% of people who are talking on a cell phone are talking to no one. It's a true fact I saw on the news last week. So cell phone users are now the laughing stock of the world cause they are faking calls to look cool.
And for all of those who say they need to get their kid a cell phone to monitor their kids, get a life. My parents watched me fine without the need of a cell phone when I was a kid. Parents are also too dependent on cell phone babysitting. It's time you take their cell phones back parents, and watch your kids yourself.

1. Safety
2. Safety
It's dangerous not to have a cell phone these days. If you are a girl, you have even more reason to be able to keep in touch.
You parents should also feel better that they can find you if something happened, like a family emergency. Tell them they can get you a pre paid cell so you won't run up the bill.

I hope you share this one with your parents...
You NEED it because you can call to check in when you are out with your friends, and to use in emergencies.
You WANT it so that you can call and text your friends whenever you feel like it and be part of the "In" crowd.
You DESERVE it because you are a responsible young person with good intentions. You get good grades and don't give your parents any trouble, and you're not going to run up the bill $$!
I didn't get my son a cell phone until he turned 14. I laid down the rules, for example, no silly downloads and ringtones, and he is only to use it within his monthly minute limit.
A note for your parents: It's ok if your child has a cell phone as long as they use it in a responsible manner and not abuse the privlidge...it is a PRIVLIDGE!
Good Luck.

Cell phones can come in quite handy, especially when there is an emergency. Mostly, teens want cell phones so they can spend countless hours talking to their friends, which I don't blame them. If you have the conservative type of parents, it going to be hard to convince them. Those tend to be the kind of parents that like to shy their children away from technology, because of their excuse that "they didn't need it when they were kids, and neither do you" type of attitude which pisses me off. Seriously, those types of parents annoy me severely, just because they weren't exposed to technology at it's finest doesn't mean the teens of this century shouldn't be. This is the 2000's, all you parents out there, yes, we're not going to go outside and play, no we're gonna sit in front of a computer. We are going to use email, we are going to use cell phones, GET OVER IT! It's the 2000's baby, and nothing is going to stop today's youth from being engulfed in the comforts and conveniences of technology.
So be a rebel and tell your parents this, it's time they figure it out. lol sorry, kind of went on a tangent. I'm a college student, but I understand where teens are coming from, I used to be one. Good luck with convincing your parents and I hope my schpeel motivates ya! Have fun!

the reason that teens need cell phones is that we teens need to keep in contact with tour parents and our friends and our parents could always check on us but not when were in the movies of course and we can talk to our friends just incase in school that you dont get the question you can call them up and ask them about the question and see if they can help you with that work if your parents dont know how to do the work that we did because they did it like 20- 35 years back and maybe they for got how to do it.

1. When you get your lisence, if you crash, you need a cell phone just in case so you can call for help.
2. If yo're out with just friends and you get lost you can call your other friend, or your parents.
3. You like the concept of having a cell phone to use to chat with friends instead of a home phone because you like the feeling of it being more private.

If you're willing to get a job and pay for the bill, then by all means, try to convince your parents to get one. Otherwise, you don't need one. You can contact your friends on your parents land line. If you're out, and your parents need to know where you are or if you're going to be late, keep 50 cents on you for the pay phone.
Kids have it too good these days. We didn't have cell phones, iPods, or the Internet growing up and we did just fine!

I think maybe have one for safety if you walk home from school or go a lot of places by yourself. I don't think teens "need" them. Especially if you are of driving age because teens tend to pay more attention to what they are talking about rather than the road when they are driving. Example: Two weeks ago, I was driving behind 2 girls who were both on the phone in their car and they blew through a red light and pretty much got smeared across the road.
