Ok, get white lacey curtains to make the room look a wee bit bigger....
Keep all the windows open as much as possible, when your awake, so that it feels airy.
Paint the ceiling white, as you have the trim, a bright white as you can get...
Now, get some light colored furniture, as you can, so that it makes it look roomy... Dont put anything else dark in there...
Now, if it were your home, and you wanted to do some remodeling, (I was thinking of doing this one myself), put some White plastic lattice works up on the walls...
Now, for every picture you have, make a square in the lattice by cutting it out, (either with a hacksaw, coping saw, or sharp razor knife or one of those sears cutters with the razor knife in it, really great cutter that one).
That way, you outline each picture in the lattice work and it looks really sharp! You can even go as far as putting up a fake fence, all around the room, and having lattice work between the rails, that you would install, so that it looks like its always outdoorsy in the room:)
I wish you well..

It is important that the color in the different rooms around the house come together logically. Analyze each of the tones; determine which colors, and in what proportions, they complement each other to give the final result.
Here are ten household helpful hints for choosing room colors:
1 Brighten up the darker spaces by painting the walls in pale colors.
2 If you paint a high ceiling a dark color, will make it look lower.
3 A light blue or a gray make a small room seem wider.
4 Use the wall colors to mark off areas according to actives.
5 Red and reddish tones are bold, exciting colors which stimulate movement. They are especially suitable for work areas.
6 Yellows are warm, bright colors, ideal for dark spaces to make us feel cozy.
7 Green is essentially linked to life; it reminds us of nature and is perfect for interiors we want to connect with outside.
8 Blues are fresh, harmonious, and easy to combine. They remind us of vast extensions of sea and sky.
9 To make a room more radiant, you can paint the walls in light colors and introduce dashes of color through the furniture, complements, and ornaments.
10 Neutral colors like beiges and browns combine well with other tones and give the room a natural feel.
Color is clearly the most visible linking factor between separate rooms and is ideal for giving consistency to the decoration scheme of a whole house.

Thats a hard one. Dark colors tend to make a room look smaller, try to contrast it with some lighter colors, in hopes of making the room look a bit bigger. Try to use light colored furniture. Tans, mauves, and even grey-blues will work with those colors. You can incorperate these colors into your bed and furnature.
I would suggest not trying to cover your walls in posters or such because it will give the room a cramped look, which does not work with a small looking room. Also, makes sure you get lots of light, choose good lightbulbs, and when it is daytime, you should open your windows.
Also, you can try adding some mirrors on your walls, as they can give the illusion that your room is bigger than it seems (Space them out though). Do not use rugs, you have carpeting and it will look tacky.

Small rooms and dark colours do NOT go together. I have painted two bedrooms for teenage boys (nephew and younger son) and both found that when they went to their rooms to study in the evening, they fell asleep at their desks! This happened despite that their furniture was beech (a very light wood) and both had hardwood floors. In the winter, the north facing dark green room felt like a dungeon and our son hated to be in his room then.
Dark green has a great deal of blue in it. Blue is the hardest colour to cover over when re-decorating. I had a turquoise bathroom that took 1 coat of primer and 4 coats of paint to hide the blue.
IMHO you'll be incredibly sorry about the dark green. CIL has a green called "Pacific Pine" which I painted a large dining room. Why not look in that still intense but lighter range of green?

The easiest way is to find a multi-colored pillow or area rug that includes 2 of the colors you already have, and it should have some new colors you can introduce to your room in small or large ways!
Also, if you can get away from clustering things together on your walls, that will work to keep it from looking crowded. try to keep at least 6 or 7 inches distance between mirrors, artwork, etc.
Have fun!

Try a cream color wainscotting on the lower half of the room, with a detailed chair rail in the same color..it should serve to brighten the whole room. Then compliment the room with a few purple (eggplant) and cream colored accesories(such as pillows, pictures, draperies, furniture scarves, bedding etc)You will find it to be a very "rich" looking contrast,on a five dollar pocketbook.

There is a fun way that you can brighten your room. If you go to your local hardware store, you can purchase wire curtain rods. You can use these, attached to your ceiling, to hang a sheer curtain to cover at least one whole wall! We have dark brown panelling, and used a light blue curtain on the wall opposite the window. It brightened and enlarged the whole room!
With the color you described, I would try a pastel yellow curtain.

Use lighter colors like pastel yellow or maeve. Those might make it look bigger, and accent nicely.
