becasue some one is providing a servce for you by making sure your call gets to the person you want it to go to, and fast... now those people have to get paid or they wouldn't have anywhere to work, and the materials to make sure your call gets there cost money, either the telephone poles, or the sattelite, they all cost money to maintain and build, so really you are just paying for the company to provide a service to you

You are BEGINNING to think that nothing is free?!?!? wow, you must have had a very luxurious childhood!
Anyway, telephone bills are so high in such a small world for the same reason if you go 200 miles on a bus, you would not pay the same fare as the person who rode on it for 2 milesblocks. You are paying for a service based on time and distance. It is economics.
