I was given an old laptop I want to put windows ME on it ..as of now it doesn't have an operating system and I do have an old/new full windows ME disk set but I think Im doing something wrong

Yeah, you're doing something wrong all right. You're putting Windows ME on it which is by far THE WORST operating system ever made period. The solution is to install either Windows 2000 or XP, I would go with 2000 if it's an older laptop.

In order to install the operating system you have to set the BIOS to boot from the CD drive (or other optical drive) first. Go with Windows 2000. Even if you can do it for free, don't put Windows ME on there.

Some system CD that come with computers only work with that computer only. If you want to install windows ME on that particular computer, then you have to buy the CD from retail store. Does it make sense?

What error message are you getting and why on earth are you trying to load Windows ME? ME is the biggest piece of crap that Microsoft ever made. lol

When you can give a more specific problem, post it on here or go to google groups.

I would agree that ME is not a good OS but then any MS product is near worthless. If you get get a copy of Win98 (make sure it is SE) then download a copy of Puppy Linux 2.01 from their website. It works great and its FREE

When you try to install Win-me what happens.

does it freeze
refuse to install
installs part way

DEAR GOD DO NOT INSTALL WINDOWS ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if you have to install 98 or something, ME is horrible. absolutely horrible.
