In the U.S. the expiration date on meat means (and usually says) "Use or freeze by xxxxx." If you freeze it, cook it the same day you defrost it.

if it expired June 1, 2006, it would be fine if it is frozen. June 1, 2005, or earlier, I'd toss it. If it is a year old, it won't get you sick, but it will taste pretty bad and be pretty tough.

Meat won't go bad in the conventional sense, but it will dry out (freezer burn) which makes it unpalatable but not 'off'. If it had been wrapped sufficiently well then it should be fine. Best way to tell is to defrost it, sniff it and then decide! But you must cook it immediately once it is defrosted and under NO circumstances re-freeze!

it is probably okay-i bet that is the sell date-if so beef usually last at least 3 months in the freezer if properly wrapped!
