Absolutely Yes! It's a very bad trend in our country in recent years, and unfortunately I believe the pharmaceutical companies are very happy about it too. There is a medication offered to you for every single minor malady a person can have from restless legs, to urinating too much, to not being able to fall asleep quickly enough. What ever happened to "take a hot bath and drink a warm glass of milk" to help you go to sleep? If a child doesn't pay attention enough in school, he's diagnosed with ADD. What healthy child DOESN'T have alot of energy or drift off to think about something else now and then. The over medication of our society is so bad, that they even show us commercials of a happy group of people, and they tell us the name of the medication, but they don't tell us what it's for. They just tell us to "ask our doctor if it's right for us" so we can be like the happy people in the group. How ridiculous is that?

The decision to take a medication should be made with great care. If you can live with the problem, you shouldn't medicate for it. Some of the side affects are worse than the problem was to begin with, but sometimes there is no alternative but to take something. I take quite a few, both prescription and natural/vitamins. I am not emotionless, I function at a much higher level then when I am not on the meds. (I have tried weaning off some, but the problems returned). At this point in my life I am more concerned about quality of life vs quantity of life. I also have very good Dr's. at this time who, don't just try to add a pill for every problem. But I do sometimes see people who are over medicated. A healthy lifestyle goes a long way, over just finding a pill to fix a problem. With the crazy way life has become it is difficult to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Lack of exercise and being overweight contribute to the health problems that people seek attention for. Sometimes its a simple as finding a way to relieve stress, many problems are being attributed to stress, take care of the issues causing the stress and many times the issues go away. Being proactive in your health and health care goes a long way in avoiding adding yet another pill, but it takes work and effort and some people just want the magic pill to make it all go away. The short answer to your question LOL is yes some are and no some aren't.

once you're saying "over medicated" are you touching on the upward push in anti-depressant use in our u . s .? I take citalopram (celexa) on a regular basis and, with out it, i'm a multitude. With it i think like i will function greater advantageous with out stress, melancholy, anger, etc. Am I an impassive worker bee? No. i'm a worrying, considerate, each and every so often over emotional, loving spouse and mom.

I was thinking this same thing. It reminds me of the book Brave New World, where the people were medicated and conditioned so they wouldn't feel regular emotions and were always expected to be happy. They were also constantly distracted (TV, Movies, Video games), so they wouldnt think for themselves and realize the situation that they were in. I believe America is pretty close to that.

Simple answer, yes. Most people in America are diagnosed with things they don't have/don't really need medication for are shoved out the door.

i don't know about worker bees but our hospitals are always full with people waiting to get in.i think doctors and insurance company are taking advantage of people that could be helped if they stayed out of hospitals and did'nt take so many medications.
