Let's say I plan to kill Jim and I shoot at him, but Jim dodges the bullet and the bullet ricochets and hits Sally and kills her.

Is that a sin or does the intent not get lost and the death becomes an accident?

You intended to kill when you pulled the trigger. Whether you kill Jim or Sally you still took a life. I don't believe in sin. I don't think you will be punished for taking a life. I do think you will learn from it. Either here and now or when you leave your body and have to experience this interaction from the view point of Sally,Jim, and their families. Feeling every bit of pain, anger, and helplessness your action caused.

Okay, well I think that in the real world, you would still stand trial for killing someone. As far intent, I think the fact that you ended up killing someone accidently b/c you missed the person you were trying to kill is pretty much just as bad as if you'd just hit your regular target. Accident or not, you did it b/c you planned to kill someone. Personally, I 'd feel especially bad for hurting someone innocent to my original plan.

I do think that if the bullet that hit Sally was aimed at a target and it some how kills her, then you were truely innocent. I think that Karma knows her stuff, so I try not to tempt her. Oh I also think that sins you think about, and at least start to plan out are worse than if something happens, and it causes you to snap.

Transferred intent applies to sins. In your hypothetical case you wanted to kill a person and you did. It doesn't really matter that you didn't want to kill Sally but Jim..

It's not a sin if you say "Just kidding" or if you were really intending to wing Jim. Stupid Jim always dodging bullets... We'll call him Jim The Bullet Dodger

I actually had people telling me that if a person suffers from "Gilles de la Tourettes" disease, which can cause him to curse from time to time.....that same cursing is a sin in God's eyes.

So, i'm guessing this is probably a sin too.

It's funny how people try to interpret an old book and even think they have some Truth, Morals and Values inside themselves, huh?

The origanal intent is not lost to God, and the reckless disregard for Sally's life is not lost on the Courts.

Yes that's a sin because your intent was to kill (Thou shalt not kill) and you end up shedding innocent blood which is really bad......destructive behavior is not of God! So yes no matter the outcome it's a sin.
