would Congress be a tad more concerned about illegal immigration?

Would they be in a little more hurry to get off their fat, lazy ***es and do something?

Why would they? It would be a whole lot easier and cheaper to get maids, gardeners and other help if Washington were closer to the border. I think you might find if you went around the country that people in places close to the border, like Texas and Southern California, understand that they are heavily reliant on immigrant labor to pick crops, wash dishes, and do a lot of other menial jobs. And even people who want to get tougher on immigration might be sorry if immigrant labor were curtailed because they would suddenly have to pay much higher prices at restaurants.

What you don't realize is that a lot of people benefit from cheap labor, and if we were somehow magically able to prevent illegal immigration, which would drive up the cost of labor, the main result would be to send even more jobs to other countries where labor is cheap. And a lot of people would simply no longer be able to afford to hire nannies and gardeners.

Since most border communities don't want drastic, militarized border security measures, if Washington DC were on the border, there probably wouldn't even be a discussion in congress. It would just be left alone.

The mayor of El Paso, the governor of New Mexico, and other politicians on the border, as well as the large majority of the citazens here, don't want the national guard in their backyard.

The whole cause ironically has more support the further you get from the border, as people have less and less understanding of the border security issue.

I live in DC and can tell you where I live is 80% latino, 8% black, and 2% other. Of course the whole city isn't like that but on average our city has more latinos than blacks. The real problem is that our law makers aren't average americans. They live in million dollar homes that immigrants can't afford. Untill some senators son gets murdered by an illegal will a real crackdown begin.

The problem of illegal immigration is damned if you do, damned if you dont. Make a guest worker program, and people are still coming in. Start deporting, they still come in. Build wall, they bring ladders. Build moat, they bring boats. Employ guards, the run pass. Only real solution is to annex Mexico therefore there would be no need.

Well, since Washington is the liberal capital of the world, hardly.

To the contrary, perhaps they would have already gotten amnesty. Not everyone has the same opinion of illegals as you do.
