Fair? Certainly not. I'd be heartbroken if someone sold my cat while I was away from the house. However, if they are your parents, they do have the right to do this. If they have sold your dog while you were gone, they probably wanted to make it easier on you. You don't really have a choice in the matter, as they are your legal guardians and you are a minor (at least, I'm assuming you are a minor, I apologize if this is untrue). By doing it while you are away, they have saved you the trouble of having to say goodbye.

Of course, that doesn't make it a good idea. It's very sad that you didn't get a chance to appreciate the last moments you had with your dog, and I'd say it wasn't a very nice thing of your parents to do at all. Parents are not perfect, though, and if you can forgive them for this, but explain to them in a very mature and intelligent way that they have done something very hurtful to you and that you don't appreciate it at all, and that you wish to be included in big decisions like this, you may find that they treat you with better respect in the future.

If you throw a tantrum, which would be understandable, you will only confirm for them that it was easier for them to do this without you there. So try to keep yourself under control and make sure your parents see that you are capable of being included in these sorts of things. You can always vent your frustrations in a journal or to a close friend or other relative if you really need to get it out.

No! did they really sell it? Maybe he got hit by a car and they rather you hate them than deal with the heart break of a dead dog.

Did your parents warn you before that they were getting rid of the dog. Maybe you were not taking care of it. Dogs need lots of care. Maybe they sold it while you were gone, so you would not have to see it leave.

No I don't. Parents should discus selling the dog with you before deciding.

no its not really right..
specially if you were taking care of it.. doing all the work that a dog requires..

if you were leaving this job to your parents.. and they didn't want the dog in the first place i can see their point for getting rid of it

Heck, no! That's sneaky and dishonest! You have every right to be angry and upset. They should have spoken to you first and given you their reasons and justification. While you live in their house, you are stuck with their rules - unfortunately. Speak to a school counselor about how to get over this without letting it ruin your life and your relationship with your parents.

My best friend's mom had her dog put to sleep while she was at a slumber party. Didn't even bother to lie about it. Told her straight out that she killed the dog.
