I'm a person who likes to open so many websites at once (app 20 pages opened). I once used IE, and you can guess how cluttered by taskbar with IE icon. when I learnt about tabbed browsing feature in Firefox, I switched to Firefox immediately, and no problems occur when I opened so many tab as I could open.

but lately, I just noticing that Firefox is slowed down a lot (by the means of system process, not loading the page process) when opening many tabs which each containing friendster page. As we know, almost every page on friendster is containing an advertisement, in macromedia Flash.

I'm not talking about the ad. I'm talking about the flash. by the time when I opened just as much as 10 tabs, the Firefox is slowed down to the level that it needs 10-20 secs to switch between tabs. after I investigate, I suspect that the flash shockwave is the main cause of this. how can I turn off the flash plugin so Firefox doesn't have to load AND PLAY the flash everytime I open a new page?

Click on Tools, then Options. A dialog box will appear.

Click on Downloads icon, then on Plug-Ins button. Another dualog box will appear. It will contain the list of currently installed browser pug-ins.

Look for Shockwave in plug-in descriptions and disable Shockwave by removing the check mark in the Enabled column.

In case someone currently arrives to this page for answers (like me), the correct way to disable shockwave plugin protected mode for Fire Fox version 38.0.5 is to follow this path: menu->add-ons-> plug-ins->shockwave flash options->then uncheck "enable adobe flash protected mode".
