Great question. The Bible said that natural man is sinful and flees from truth and from God. I see the rejection (contempt is a better word) of Christianity by the secular world as proof that Christianity IS indeed the way, the truth, and the life. Satan wants to destroy Christianity and Christians. He has and will continue to set his forces against it. It's his #1 goal. The Bible tells us that Christians will be rejected and persecuted and that in the end times, the unsaved will have backwards thinking: they will see right and wrong and wrong as right. Non-believers don't see evil as evil, nor do they get upset by evil things (see moral relativism) but they DO bristle and react with repulsion at the mention of and the thought of God because 1) He is purely good (wholly Holy) and 2) He is the ONLY thing that can make them feel convicted of their sins. The double standard you speak of is prophesied in the Bible. Take heart! God is ON THE MOVE!

I am christian and I have never had that problem. And yes that is what you are doing. Judging Luke 6:37 give that a try. Why do you care what others say about you or your "lifestyle". Why do you feel the need to wear your "religion" on your sleeve. I don't go to work and school screaming hey everybody look I'm a chrisitian. However if someone asks, I tell them. I think the only one who has a problem with you being a christian is you. And yes, I am a feminist also. I believe that women (not only women but people in general) should not be treated as cattle or property, but as humans with dignity and respect. Which is what the feminist movement was about. Do you know what a feminist is or are you just using it as a slang term as most people? I think you should take a long, hard look at you, and then see what you don't like about you; because while you are pointing your finger at everyone else their are three more pointing back at you.

Hey, that's a great question, first off.
Most of society only sees the fundamentalist crazy Christians that go around destorying abortion clinics and stuff like that that only about 2% of Christians would do. People living quiet "normal" lives rarely make the news.
I disagree with a few of the other responses about how Christians are the only ones that condemn other people and their lifestyles. Gay people condemn homophobics, muslims condemn America, Christians, and Jews, scientologists condemn psychiatrists. "Elitists" condemn just about every non-intellectual and/or proven ideas, and so on. Environmentalists condemn people that drive SUV's.
Really, not everything is totally acceptable - people only pretend that they accept everything so they can appear enlightened or whatever. Humans have an inherent sense of ethnocentricity and that they're always right. It might be subconscious, but it's there.

I have nothing against Christianity, really. I guess I just have a problem with the way some people interpret the teachings, and then try and prostilize (sp?) or try and spread their beliefs. Some Christian people do yell in people's faces. They can be very judgemental and narrowminded. And I suppose that goes for any group or religion anywhere. Not just Christianity. There are the sincere and good Christians (as you seem to be) and there are the "others." The ones that turn people completely off to Christianity. I feel that if one can discuss their belief system with respect and integrity with people of other faiths,if their spiritual path teaches them how to do this...then there's nothing "wrong" with that religion. Try and imagine how Lord Jesus was trying to preach to others about his spiritual path? I'm sure his humility, his respect for all others, his compassion, his love....if we could just follow in his footsteps, well.....I'm a dreamer and an idealist. Just something to think about. You sound like you're doing fine, however. Try not to worry about all this other nonsense. If they reject you, that's their problem, not yours. Then learn from their actions....do you ever judge and reject others because of their beliefs, or for that matter, their race, age, sexual orientation, and so on? Peace.

For the same reason I suppose that among Christians, anything is okay as long as you're a Christian. People defend those they see as in their "circle", and "bash" those they see as outsiders.
However, quite a bit of what many Christians see as "Christian-bashing" is really just a responsible reaction to the bad behavior of many Christians. Perhaps you do not spew an agenda, but the U.S. is infested with Christian extremists who do, and of course that gives Christianity a bad name.
So what can you do about it? For one thing, live up to what you said here: don't spew an agenda. Non-believers are being perfectly reasonable in not believing in invisible gods, and you don't do Christianity any favors if you act as though there's something wrong with not believing.
For a second thing, help hold those extremists responsible. I'm an atheist, and I've been reporting atheists' illicit behavior here as much as I've been reporting the illicit behavior of people I disagree with. If more Christians stood up to the extreme Christian right wing, there'd be a lot more respect for Christianity from the rest of us. Respect is earned, and the creationists and anti-abortionists and the like are throwing away any respect Christians are otherwise earning.

do you really want to know? think about it christianity has a history of hate voilence? christian fundamentalist fire non christians in work places and these same christians go around trying to convert the world where all the other religions dont. this country is mostly runned by christians but they also have to abide by the freedom of religion so if christians had it there way there would be more blood shed caused by these same fundies that you claim or disclaim as being real christians. but you ask why only christians get attacked? thats where you have to question your belief and realize its not about peace and love its about conquest and destruction of people who think and feel different than you do about who or what god may be. so young lady i think its time for you to study your religion closely and then ask this question again later on. christians are also based on double standards as well trust me i know i see it in chatrooms and in this forum all the time.

In response to Guardian Angels comment:
First of all look at your source: earlychristianhistory.net. When do you see Christian hate violence right now? You think all Christians act that way? Those people who commit these acts of violence are not real Christians, and for you to say they are is wrong. You said "if Christians had it there way there would be more blood shed caused by these same fundies that you claim or disclaim as being real Christians." I say again- that these people are not real Christians- God did not say to go out and kill people- thou shalt not kill. You have an obvious biased view of Christians. I don't need to question my belief, because I know it is not about conquest and destruction of people. God gave us free will, so it is up to the individual to decide for themselves it they want to follow Christ. You also said "i know i see it in chatrooms and in this forum all the time." So you base your opinion on Christians from your on-line experience? Come on- have you ever tried actually talking to Christians- and not fundamentalists/extremists- as I have said before who are not real Christians. You do not know enough about Christianity/Christians to make an educated response.

Probably because there are Christians out there who DO go around yelling in people's faces (or at least in your TV) and spewing their agenda. It's unfortunate and I agree with everything you're saying. People generalize with lots of things, and religion is one of them. It sucks and it's ignorant. If I were you, I'd come up with a standard repsonse to their remarks that will shut them up instantly. I find that sarcasm usually works.
Why am I a Christian? Cause I love to see people like you get their panties in a knot about it, it's amusing. Oh yeah....I forgot how horrible it is for us to try to be good people and have high moral expectations. Silly me.

A feminist, a prostitute, a gay person, a Buddhist have never condemned me for my lifestyle.
Christians condemn others on a daily basis. Christians also form the majority. It's impossible to discuss issues with a majority that acts as the oppressor, yet feels like it's being oppressed.

Because it is the one TRUE belief, to believe in God and our savior, Jesus Christ. The devil will make everything else look okay except for the TRUTH. That's why it's the one intolerant religion or belief, because it's the truth.
