Hi,
My cat, Charlie, used to be a outdoor/indoor cat, now he is 100% outdoor cat by his choice. Since being a outdoor cat, he pees in his litter box, but always poops ouside around the house and on the top of mulches of flower beds.
Any idea how does he change that? and how do we correct it?

Also how do I cool him off during hot summer days? And how I prepare or do to keep him warm during winter? I don't think he want to be inside any more. I live in Huntsville, AL. We have some day in single digit temperature.
Any idea will be greatly appreciate
Thanks

How about getting Charlie fixed and keep him indoors. It will make a nice cat out of him and it would be kind to him too. The only way to keep him cool, is to bring him in the air conditioning, and keep him there. In the mean time, always keep cool water for him to drink. That water gets hot very fast. It would be easier on you too to bring him indoors and the water stays cool and you won't have to worry. Keep him warm outside in winter? Not posibile, you are very creul to even consider it.

Go to a pet specialty store, you'll find a cat litter that isn't made of the sand stuff. It sounds like he wants something that feels a little more outdoorsy. Something you can look for is a litter that looks like little twigs. I had a similar problem and when I changed the cat litter my cat stopped going in the plants. As far as cooling him down during the summer just make sure there is always plenty of water for him. Cats tend to dehydrate quickly. During the winter I would find some sort of cat carrier or even one of those scratching posts with a cubby hole in it and line it with blankets so he has somewhere warm to stay. If it gets too cold for him, he'll probably come back in.

Charlie still pee's in his litter box, because the indoors is still his "home". He needs to keep his territory marked. He poops outdoors because he just needs to go! Mulch is litter-like. In summer, he will find cool spots of his own - generally under something in the shade. In winter, his coat will thicken. If he's really cold, he will come inside. You sound like a wonderful cat owner. Good Luck

to stop cats from going to the bathroom wear u don't want them to, you get a spray bottle and put peppermint oil and water in the spray bottle then spray it wear you don't want Charlie to poo or pee.It works I've don it for my cats. In the summer take a thin cloth and get it wet and put it on your cats back when he's sleeping or being com. In the Winter find the main spot were your cat sleeps and make it more cozy and warm because cats like to sleep a lot. Also I know you might not want to do this but it works usually cats like to go under blankets, see if your cat likes to go in your bed or put a blanket on your bed and he will hide in that it will keep him worm.

If he is outdoors, you really can't control where he goes.
There are "Stay Away" products at pet stores you can try.

Is he fixed? Usually they will want to come inside more if they are fixed.
