The problem is that there's a few versions of the game in history so when they converge they may claim to be invented by whoever. I did see a documentary that the first football rules were drawn up in Cambridge but that was before contact was allowed! England ruled football til WW1 at least and Scotland (or Queen's Park to be perfectly correct) invented the passing/moving game that we see all over the world. Also, Scots took football to Brazil, not England as been reported.

Jamie G - When the Romans invaded SOME Saxon tribes stood up to them but many rolled over and took the considerable advantages on offer.
Nobody escaped to 'Scotland' as no such place existed.
The Picts were the predominant force in the land and it was they who exasperated the Romans into building two walls to exclude them from a huge empire.
But no English or Welsh fled here and DNA testing of most native peoples reveals us to have been here since the Ice Age.
Rather a more exclusive club than the mongrel English who further capitulated to the Normans.
England - no national identity.
Even your heroes King Arthur and Robin Hood had to be invented.
Whether we invented the game or not is not that relevant.
There are far greater gifts to mankind from this small part of the globe.

The english wrote the rules of association football, the scots introduced the game to the world in their travels. The first Liverpool squad was made up entirely of scotsmen except for one englishman. The first team to win any league anywhere by assoc rules was Preston North End, who were very much a team full of scotsmen. The scots are considered the fathers of the passing game, where the english tended to dribble aimlessly. One of the many lessons the scots gave the english. Football in south america and europe was introduced by scotsmen.

According to National Geographic there was a Chinese kicking game called "tsu chu" that dates back to 2500 B.C.
It wasn't until 1848 the first football rules were drawn up at Cambridge University in England.
I have heard the story about football starting in Scotland, that players used a sheep or goat bladder for a ball. Don't know about any stable evidence though.

Many cultures and peoples played a game that consisted on transporting a ball to a goal. Scots, Chinese, Romans, Greeks, Olmecs to name a few.
It was in October 26 1863 that the first rules of Football as we know it were established. That's the beginning of today's Football and it happened in England. Had this meeting happened in Scotland I would agree with you 100%.

Hi there,
you can find a free download of King Arthur Gold here: http://bit.ly/1qXIn0T
Finally the full version is avaiable!
Players of the King Arthur’s Gold title are required to construct siege machines for the destruction of their enemies, buildings for the production of military units and resources, and of course mines for gold.
It's a really nice game.

Actually I think they group Scotland and England, together they're part of the United Kingdom, so they just say football was invented in the UK.

when the romans invaded england, the native english retreated to scotland and wales. therefore the scottish are more english than the english, so by your theory the english still invented football.
