Did it look almost exactly as it does today? If so, then why was it created with the appearance of having been around for several billion years? For instance, why do we find mountains growing in height at a rate of millimetres per year which therefore must have started forming several million years ago? Why do we find that Africa and South America were once joined together and are only separating now at the rate of about 2cm per year, meaning that the South Atlantic must be about 200 million years old? Why do we find great volcanoes reduced to stumps by the unimaginably slow processes of erosion, which clearly could not have done their work in a mere 6,000 years?

And so on...

Why was the world not created to look 6,000 years old, but rather billions of years old, if it really is 6,000 years old?

It was created as a 5 billion year old world, because that supported life the best.

The bible never said it was 6000 years old. It was only assumed because certain religions counted the generations based on lifespans of certain ages. It is only 6000 to 10,000 years to Adam and Eve. However the bible makes it clear that there were people and animals before them. The earth was flooded and destroyed prior to Adam. There were whole ages of people and animals and dinosaurs too. Psalms talks about God destroying all that was here and causing the earth to be black and covered with water. Everything perished. This was not Noah's flood. In Genesis he restored the earth in 6 days and created a garden with Adam and Eve. This was representations of a new age that had just started.

The bible says the earth was not created void and without form but perfect. It says that Satan caused the earth to void and without form by corrupting things that God had made. God had to destroy the corruption on a planetary basis and start over. One of the six days of restoration was to pull one land mass out of the ocean. This was Pangaea. The bible describes it in great detail. It says in the middle of it was one large river that broke into four. It only names two of the rivers, the Euphrates and the Tigris. Reason is because the land mass broke into continents and the one major river and the other two not mentioned do not exist anymore. The bible says that two generations after the tower of Babel, in the days of Peleg, God divided the earth. This was after he confounded the languages and everyone separated from each other.

So despite whether a person believes the bible or not, there are questions as to why Moses knew there was one continent and it was split. If you place the continents together, you have your large one river splitting into four.

First of all, no proof Americas and Africa were once joined, erosion was created by the Great Flood, and just because a mountain is growing by millimeters (which is up for debate as well) that doesn't mean it started at 0 cm, it could have started almost where it is now, and growing due to accumulating sediments. And your statement, 'appearance of being around billions of year,' how do you prove that statement, sir? What do you have it to compare to?

Icarus,
I can't believe that you are supporting your argument with the pangea theory. That was proven wrong years ago.

You are making some false assumptions. The rate of growth of a mountain does give the impression of a long time as you said. However, you're assuming that the rate has always been the same. That concept of uniformatarinism was thought up by someone to explain how the earth could possibly be billions of years old. However, there is no substance behind the concept. You would be at a great disadvantage in any scientific study to make such an assumption with no basis to support it.

The bible explains that during the flood of Noah, there were some severe earth changing events taking place. When the water receeded, it caused major upheavles and the mountains rose quickly and the valleys sank down.
How do you explain poly-strata fossils with the evolution theory? It is impossible. The flood theory is much more reasonable and explains this phenomonon very accurately and believeable.

The earth looked very different to what it looks like today. There was MUCH more land exposed and less water when it was created. Animals, plants and people were much larger and lived longer because of the greater air pressure and oxygen content in the atmosphere. They found that air trapped in radio plutonium halos found in "pre-cambrian" granite has a 50% greater oxygen content than today's air.
This could explain why the dinosaurs became extinct. Dino nostrils were much smaller than would be needed for them to breathe in today's atmosphere.
The bible says that there used to be a water canopy surrounding our atmosphere at the edge of space. Some scientists believe that this could have been super cold ice because ice is magnetic and would be suspended in the magnetic field.
Part of the flood according to the bible came from that water canopy when God caused it to rain on the earth and the canopy was gone and now in the oceans. So when the canopy disappeared, the air pressure and oxygen content lessened. This is when the dinosaurs started to die off because most of them died in the flood (I'll get to that later) and the one's Noah took with him couldn't survive in the new atmosphere.
.
The oceans contain the flood waters. The land started shifting like the surface of a waterbed when the weight of the water was put on it. The oceans receeded into their respective areas and the mountains and land rose to their levels.
Of course, this can't be proven and is only a theory. However, no one can prove that the rate of growth of a mountain has remained a constant as you assume it to be.

If we go by your rate of growth as a constant and apply it to astrophysics, we have a major problem. The moon is leaving the earth at about 1 inch per year. If you go back millions of years, then the moon would be so close to the earth that the tides would drown everything on earth twice a day. Life wouldn't have been able to form that long ago unless it was strictly sea creatures. But since evolution claims dinosaurs lived 65 million years ago, they have a flaw in their theory with the aforementioned tide issue.

There are some other problems like the speed of the earth's rotation. The earth is slowing down. If you go back millions of years, the earth is spinning so fast, the winds would destroy all life. So you have tides and winds that would kill everything on earth. How did life survive millions of years ago? So, we have two possibilities here. 1, The rates of moon distance and earth rotation is not a constant. 2, It is a constant and the earth is less than 10,000 years old.
Either choice poses a problem for evolution theory. If 1 is true, then they cannot claim the rates of time are constant in any part of their theory and must admit the impossibility of ever being able to prove the earth is billions of years old. If 2 is true, the whole theory has to be thrown out completely.

And be honest, do we really know what billions of years old looks like?
So, as far as the earth looking like something...Doesn't it look like a flood engulfed the entire planet? How else would fossils form? Objects need to be rapidly buried in mud to fossilize. If an animal dies in the forest, it won't fossilize unless it gets buried in mud. Otherwise it just decomposes. And yet, there are numberless fossils all over the world scattered everywhere. There are even soft bodied fossils like jellyfish. That is hard evidence that they were buried rapidly in a catastrophe. There are even fossils of fish eating other fish. There is no way they died slowly. And we know that it doesn't take long for things to fossilize. We found fossils of objects that were made in the 1950's. They found sacks of flour, cowboy boots, hats and other modern day things that have been fossilized.
So as far as the earth looking like it's billions of years old, it only looks like that if you're taught to see things in a certain way. You are more brainwashed than you realize.

You can't blame God because people are bad at science. He gave us a book and told us exactly how old the earth is and how it was created. Much scientific research has proven bible theory is correct and nothing has proven it wrong yet. How much more simple does He need to make it?
It's not His fault if you choose to believe something else besides the bible.

The Earth is well over 6,000 years old! It is MILLIONS of years old! Genesis simply states a RENEWING of the face of the Earth nearly 6,000 years ago! The term "without form and void" in Hebrew is Tohu and Bohu--utter waste and decay! GOD did NOT create it that way! The Angels who REBELLED against GOD laid this planet to RUIN! As well as the OTHER planets! So far, only Earth was restored to it's original condition! WHY? So WE could qualify to REPLACE SATAN and his fallen angels OVER THIS EARTH! GOD has given MAN 6,000 years to PROVE once and for all that Satan's ways DO NOT WORK! Once we learn this critical lesson,THEN we can learn GOD's ways are for OUR OWN GOOD and work toward the REAL reason we are even alive here! To become Royal Members of GOD's own FAMILY! Then the whole Universe can be set free from waste and decay!

Ah, but a day is a million years, some fundamentalists claim. And so if Jehovah created the world in 6 days, and rested on the 7th, and all of those days were at least a million years (more like a billion, in reality) then let's not forget that Jehovah told us we should rest for a million years every Sabbath.

I believe God created it. It was covered in a layer of water that kept out harmful UV rays ( read about the firmament in Genesis 1 or 2. ) It was like Pangaea, all gathered up 1 land mass. It couldn't b created in 6,000 years ( u know, not the 1st day being 1,000 years, in The Evidence 4 Creation, ) so it was created in 6 24-hour days There really is alot of evidence 4 creation ( in "The Evidence 4 Creation." ) Jesus once said, " Let us reason with each other, " so, you could pray and read about it.

God created the universe with a predetermined age.... that explains alot..... adam and eve were fully formed adults, even though they were seconds old... plants trees animals... the same....

Here is something else.... you know that we can see stars millions of light years away( time that light takes to travel in one year) with our nakked eyes... that does not mean that they are millions of years old... no God created them with a predetermined age as well... He created the light coming from them so that earthlings could see the stars... if not the universe would be a very dark place...

yes it is really about 6,000 to 7,000 years old...

listen to this...

A family had a cat that died, so they buried it in their yard.... and it layed their for 2 years... they dug up the remains and took it to a scientist and he carbon dated the cat.... and in amazement he said, "Wow this cat is over 2 million years old... it is like a new species had been discovered..." he went to tell the family about their exicting new discovery, he asked," where did you find this 2 million year old creature?"... they said it is our cat... fluffy... he died 2 years ago....the scientist held his mouth open, "what !?", he said. It is true... so the scientist carboin dated it again and the same reading came out....

Looks like evoluionist carbon dating method is a little off... I guess the earth is not as old as it seems, now is it?

God bless...

I don't really have a good answer for you and I don't think the earth is 6,000 years old, but as far as the "appearance of age," we do know of a couple of miracles that used this.

For example, when Jesus turned the water into wine. Wine takes a long time to ferment and such but it was actually brand new - so it would have necessarily had the appearance of age.

easily, there are idiots in faith that make everyone else in faith look undesirable, and there are idiots in nonreligious beliefs that make everyone else in nonreligious beliefs look undesirable. both one among those make up like 5% of each and every faction, yet they're the most interest craved and are easily those that get countless the interest because so and develop into the position the stereotypes are derived from. heavily, as a non non secular individual i'm respectful of persons's beliefs, and my non secular friends experience the exact same way. even if a chum believed the earth is 6000 years previous he ought to probable no longer trust it himself yet recognize the actual incontrovertible reality that persons do. The bible is way less something you worship and bigger of a training guide, so why do human beings use it as an excuse to hate, or to hate on it because everyone appears to be like incorrectly making use of it?

Many Christians would believe that based on a verse in the bible...which is in ..
2 Peter 3:8.But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

This is and was never meant to be a calculator of how old the earth could be based on this verse...this verse was and is a verse that shows that the principle of time does not apply to God He created time for us..

From the beginning..when God created the heavens and earth in Genesis 1:1...that was the earth as you spoke...and in that time there were dinosaurs and other beast creatures defined as cavemen...but since they were not ...like the bible says living souls they could not be called man at all..like I said beasts creatures and such...

Also in that time Lucifer who rebelled and became satan..had not yet fallen..so all that was created lived in harmony and in peace...but when he did rebel and was cast out..he ushered in confusion and the need to survive by killing for food...you might not think this true but man himself was created and there was not meat for him...he was to eat herbs as meat...and after the fall of them they
had to eat meat for food..

Ok..so dinosaurs and creatures roamed..and Satan comes on the scene..his purpose to take control of Gods creation...since he wanted to be God from the beginning

God was not going to let him take over so he destroys the first creation with the ice age...now ...how old or how long did all this take....I'm not going to say billions...why ?..because science themselves don't have an accurate number...and I'll tell you why..BECAUSE TIME ITSELF DID NOT EXIST...so there are infinite calculations..but none to give you an exact number

How can they give you something that did not exist...time did not start ticking till Genesis 1:5

So maybe a million..maybe 10 million...how about 500 million....only God knows...but man does not so...no the earth is not just 6000 years old but it may not be billions...I say may ..because like I said it can be proven how old...
sedimentary..evidence..fossils...whatever it is ..it proves it existed..and I don't deny that..but how old...God only knows..God bless
