Because we're helping to enrich the knowledge of the community.

Or something like that.

Probably just because some would-be marketing genius thought it would be a good way to keep people here...

because they want people try to get a lot of points, instead of just posting questions and waiting for answers, they have to answer other's questions too. ( although, it would be better for some of them not to!!!: )!!!) points are the reasons that we get most of the bull crap answers from people who really don't give a crap about the question, they just stick some bull answer in there to that they can get the 2 points for answering a question. the points are just to make it "fun" for people who want it to be. for those of us who only answer questions when we actually have an opinion on them, and who would like for others to do the same on our questions, (well, me anyway) points aren't really that important, sure, it makes you feel good to know that you gave the best answer, but that could still be done without the points thing. i guess it's just to make answers a competition. just like every other thing in life. everyone always wants to beat everyone else. the world is a very overly competitive place, and having a points system for answers, is a perfect example of that competitiveness.

first i would just like to say that thunder_kok is an idiot by the way.and know to your question.this site is like a game.they give you points for participating and trying to answer questions.and deduct them when you ask a question.if you click on your score it will open the points award schedule.the main objective is to give your best answer to any given question ,with the hopes that someone will think that it the best answer to their question and reward them with ten points.hope this helps.

because if there were no points envolved, there would be no contest. The points are as pointless as a BA degree in Theology. It doesnt do you any good. The points dont matter like on "WHOS LINE IS IT ANYWAYS" just for fun.

Because what would the incentive be? No one does much for nothing these days... and it also shows who's answered a lot, and who's just read a few questions and acts like they know everything...
