Cats are very sensitive to insecticides-You can quite easily kill them with overdoses, or out of date products. The very best treatment is frontline (spray) from the Vet..At 12 weeks they could be too small for commercial products. However Johnsons Pet Products now sell 4FLEAS tablets for cats and kittens, they are absolutely safe, AND they start working within 20 minutes.Fleas spend most of their life-cycle off the pet, in bedding or carpetsetc. so you must use a premises-spray,too.

Tea tree oil may burn the kitties skin. tea tree oil can be very strong in some cases and have a stinging sensation when you apply it to sensitive skin. There are different flea medications on the market that are intended for kittens. Bathing kittens that small is also not a good idea since they can become sick from extreme temperature changes. The best thing is to look for flea wipes that you can rub the kittens fur with that and it may provide some relief. Make sure you vacuum rugs and carpets almost daily to get rid of any flea eggs as well as the furniture and treat all pets that come in contact with one another and that should help.

I strongly recommend AGAINST it. Please refer to the article at the website listed below.
If the kittens have fleas, contact the vet for some oral medication that will take care of the immediate infestation. (I am sorry but the name of the medication escapes me at the moment! It comes in a small box with blue and yellow on the label.) In the meantime you will need to wash their bedding daily as well as vacuum any carpet or furniture they climb on. This might be a good time to confine them to a specific area such as a bathroom until you can get the flea problem under control.
What has happened is that the eggs that were deposited before their first treatment have hatched and reinfested the kittens. Depending on what type of spot meds you used this may be prevented because some brands of the spot meds cause the new flea to become sterile after ingesting (biting the kitten) the meds.
Good luck and remember to keep kitties indoors to prevent further infestations of fleas...among other things!

Check with your Vet about putting spot on treatment on your kittens. Most of the spot on treatments are not recommended on kittens under a certain age. Your Vet might recommend a flea powder made for kittens but the mother cat has to be treated as well. All bedding where the cat has her kittens should be removed and fresh bedding given. Fleas can leave the cat and hide in rugs, clothing, furniture, etc. so everything needs to be treated. Please check with your Vet to make sure what product you should use to eliminate the fleas but not harm the little kittens.

Phone you vet or go to them. I used a bit of teateeoil before on my kitten it was 9 weeks old. Nothing happen it help my kitten. But only use a small bit not to much.

read this and see if yours kittens do have fleas
During grooming cats eat fleas in their coat, making them difficult to find. An itchy cat, or insect bites on human ankles, may be the only signs of infestation. The best way to demonstrate the presence of fleas is to place the cat on a sheet of white paper and comb it meticulously. A fine-toothed flea comb may trap one or two fleas in the brushing. 'Flea dirt' - flea excrement consisting of undigested cat blood - can usually be found. These are characteristically black and comma shaped. When placed on damp cotton wool 'flea dirt' slowly dissolves producing bloody streaks.

Fleas actually spend most of their life cycle off the animal, so getting rid of fleas on the cat is not the main solution to a flea problem.

You need to clean their bedding, carpets and every nook and cranny to get rid of flea eggs and larvae.

When they are old enough, give them a dose of Program which doesn't hurt the animal but any flea that feeds on it becomes sterile, so it breaks the life cycle of the flea.

Stop messing about and get the proper stuff for kittens from the vet. Fleas cause anaemia and can kill kittens. Stuff from the pet shop is not as good, stuff for adults is not suitable. Tea tree oil is not a suitable treatment for fleas on kittens.

I'm not sure, but I do know that teatreeoil is a natural antiseptic; my concern would be that they might lick it off. Ask your vet.

Also, have you tried "Flea Treats?" They are a vitamin-B supplement designed for pets. My dog loves them (I think they are liver flavored). After taking them for a while, fleas are repelled because your pets smell like the supplements (at least to the fleas). It is a good way to get rid of fleas without harsh chemicals or poisons.

they are 3 months old .. I should think so ..best yet is to remove the fleas with a tight comb .. and then apply the tea tree oil
oh and sprinkle anti flea powder on the carpet and suck it up with the hoover
.. so there will not be flea about and those trapped in the hoover will perish
best of luck
and pet the little ones for me,please !

thats so sad that they have fleas!but i saw a show where that was the problem too.the kittens are too young to have medicine put on themselves so put it on the mother and it should rub off on the kittens and cure them.or i suggest giving then a bath with warm water and soap.or visit a professional.like a vet before trying anything.
