For the most part it's been a long time since people have had to kill animals for survival.

Meat-eating people are just animals eating other animals. Imagine chimpanzees shopping at the supermarket, asking if the meat is fresh. That - with a tiny little variation in dna - is us.

If it's wrong to kill one animal (the human animal) it's wrong to kill any animal.

Let's assume for the sake of this question that heaven does exist, and that our lives on earth determine whether we have an enjoyable or unpleasant afterlife.

I believe that those who are forced with no alternative but to kill and eat an animal have comitted no sin. Likewise for those who are offered meat by a well intentioned host, and choose to eat the meat to avoid offending the host. I hope that "offending the host instead of eating the burger" doesn't keep me from a pleasant afterlife, but that is another question...

I don't believe that Jewish/Christian/Muslim scripture supports, as generally sinful, the "animals as food" approach to daily diet. Within each religion, different traditions have developed around the interpretation of that scripture, and the associated faith that is interpreting it. This is why neither observant Jews nor Muslims eat pork, but Christians do.

Essentially, G*d created humans (and beasts) in Eden before the fall as vegetarian - nothing "living" died, and plants are not considered "life" in OT scripture. After the fall, when death was introduced, humans were punished. Among these "punishments" was the ability to choose to eat meat. Just because you can choose a path, doesn't mean you should - free will still exists. Seventh Day Adventists believe that eating the diet that G*d intended pleases G*d. Jews have a saying: "It couldn't hurt." I wonder why Adventists don't also run around naked...

The issue for me personally isn't "Will I get to go to heaven if I eat animals?" as it is "Do I want my body to a graveyard for my friends?" For over twenty years, my answers have been "It doesn't matter, and No."

Perhaps the litmus test for an enjoyable afterlife IS whether you ate animals out of necessity or choice, and faithful followers of one or another religion will be PUNK'D! when they pass on to that afterlife.

There is as much reason to believe in that doctrine as any other.

If you are speaking of human "meat eaters", they don't "kill another animal". Man is not an animal.

God gave animals to man for food. There is joy in using God's gifts as they are intended to be used.

Gen 9:3 Every living creature will be food for you; as I gave the green plants, I have given you everything.

It depends on who kills who. Animals aren't really judged by God, so they automatically go to heaven eve nif they kill something. But us humans are judged by our actions, so if we kill something for a reason other than surviving, then yeah, it's a sin. If you kill another human for food when there's a grocery store or a soup kitchen across the street, that's a major sin. same thing when you kill an animal and just leave it there because u think it's fun to shoot @ it.

Insightful question? I think not. A few bottom lines:
Keyword you used; SURVIVAL.
Man, with exceptions, no longer has a need to kill for survival; instead its a choice to have burgers with your tomatoes and cucumbers and onions. Way too many 2 legged "animals" kill for sport or malice of many varieties.
Animals do what they do by nature's design. Guess who designed nature?!
Lastly, heaven is not for God's animals. God did not give them the power as he did humans- the power (free will) to decide for yourself-therefore will not share the same reward.

Well how else are they going to eat? All animals are food, the bigger fish always eats the smaller fish. I don't see the animal as being murderous or sinful. Insightful question, though.

Not exactly sure where you are going with this question. Are you implying that meat eating is an evil act? I know that Jesus did eat fish.
