It's pretty simple actually:
The egg is the only chance whatever lays it can change the DNA of its offspring. The egg will not really evolve genetically after it hatches.
So technically, the chicken egg came first, and gave rise to a chicken. Whatever laid that chicken egg had to be a very close cousin of the chicken ofcourse.

it is impossible to tell becuase with a hen you would need a rooster but wut if there wuznt a rooster, and with an egg you would need the chicken to keep it warm
