I have four pillows on my queen size bed. Sometimes I'll nab another one if I'm not feeling well and need a hugger pillow, but four seems to be enough for most days.
Sometimes I like to have a smaller lightweight quilt on the bed; my husband is a blanket theif and it's nice to be able to just have one I don't have to wrestle away from him.
I've seen those pillow and throw laden beds on display, but I haven't been tempted to pile all of that on my own bed. Many times I'll look at the display and one thing--usually the light coverlet thing--catches my eye and I'll look around for it.
I don't really want to load up my own bed though and there are three reasons for that. The first is that I like things to look more simple; I find it more soothing. The second is that I think that having all that stuff makes getting the bed made and pulled together is more work than I want to put into it every morning. And third--my oh my! The expense of buying all of that is too high. I don't want to devote that much of my resources to having the bed look that upholstered.
By the way "full tilt Maria" is a genius expression! Do you mind if I snatch it and use it myself?

I have seven--and I do like lots of pillows. Most men I know think you can go overboard with this. We stayed at an inn a couple years ago and there were about a dozen different pillows on the bed. My husband found it annoying to have to remove them every night. I just piled them up on the bench at the foot of the bed--no big deal. I think it can get out of control--I saw a display recently and the pillows covered half the top of the bed, and it was a king or queen!

All of the above suggestions are great! I was just going to add that you could use some "double duty" pillows. You can buy (or make!) quilts that fold into pillows. It adds to the Pillow Quotient on your bed, and makes it easy to grab an additional blanket on those cold winter nights.

I don't like the pillows, nor do I like these heavy comforters. One can smother under the comforters, so it's take that off the bed, take all the pillows off. What ever happened to a
bedspread to toss on the bed ? They are pretty, and easy to make up.

I have four pillows. Three regular size and a smaller for my husband that he uses with a regular pillow for his head or sticks under his knees if his back is bothering him. I have two regular pillows - one for my head and one to hug and prop my arm up. I deal with just a basic chenille type bedspread and that is enough for most mornings before work!!!

I tend to agree with Aniston in Something about Polly. Throw Pillows are fluff. We have seven pillows on our bed. Two are for watching TV at night and they go to the floor when we sleep. We each sleep with two and one obligatory throw we have for when one of the kids joins us to watch TV.
