Please see the webpages for more details on Hypertension.
Lifestyle changes may reduce high blood pressure, including weight loss, exercise, and dietary adjustments. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables and fat-free dairy foods and low in fat and sodium lowers blood pressure in people with hypertension. Dietary sodium (salt) causes hypertension in some people and reducing salt intake decreases blood pressure in a third of people. Regular mild exercise improves blood flow, and helps to lower blood pressure

The easiest way to control your blood pressure is through eating better. Concentrate on eating whole foods instead of processed foods (which contain lots of sodium and other bad stuff). If you have some weight to lose, even ten pounds can make a difference. I wouldn't recommend a trendy diet, just whole foods and stay away from junk food and white flour products. A moderate exercise program will likely be beneficial as well.

I find that if I gain 15 to 20 lbs., my blood pressure will go up. If I watch my diet and attempt to drop the weight, my blood pressure goes down. Also, stress is my number one way to send my blood pressure thru the roof. Get the "I don't give a care" attitude and it will help a lot also. Mainly, watch your diet and weight, and if the doctor has prescribe BP medication, take it. It really helps.

Lower your sodium intake. And exercising does help your cardiovascular system, not to mention it's many other benefits.
