Humans have been around for 10,000 years or so. If the earth was only 6,000 years old, Adam and Eve would have been spending most of their time hiding from T-rex.

For those who wrote the bible, 6,000 years was an unimaginably long time. Times were different back then. Life was more dangerous, people were simpler, and archeology and advanced science were not yet invented.

Today, our concept of time is different, and we can gather evidence, and look at the world from a scientific point of view. Using dating technology, we can now see that the fossil record goes back millions of years.

Science is changing all the time. People used to think the earth was flat. You'd be killed for saying any different. Those who believe the earth is 6,000 years old in this day in age is probably an ignorant, closed-minded, and brain washed individual. No offense to anyone, but you really can't disput hard evidence. I believe in God, but that doesn't mean I can't believe in science too.

Tremendous upheavels in the form of earthquakes, floods and environmental changes occurred when the first 2500 years of the world cycle elapsed. This is about 500 years before Christ. Then 1250 years after the first 2500 years, i.e. 3750 years after the beginning of the world Cycle, half of the half life also ended so that, since the last 1250 years, we have been in the last phase of the Earth’s magnetic moment cycle. The calculation based on data about earth’s magnetic moment so far published will point out that, if we keep into consideration, the rate of weakening of the Earth’s electromagnetic field, we can’t go further back than 5000 years from now. The world Cycle is, therefore, of only 5000 years duration, its half life being equal to 2500 years. At the end of the 5000 years cycle, the magnetic moment changes again due to nuclear explosions so that the core of the earth absorbs more energy to start once again, from where it had started 5000 years ago to compete another cycle and thus it goes on endlessly – one cycle following another ad infinitum.

The earth is much more than 6000 years old. The idea that it isn't came from Christians who said evolution and the big bang theory never could have happened. Which I believe to be true, but that doesn't rule out the earth being millions of years old. They also say the earth was created in six days (24 hour periods) like the Bible says. Which I believe is false, the Bible says six days but it doesn't say 24 hour periods, and in fact the old form of Hebrew gives varying times for days and sometimes even refers to thousands of years as a day.

Rather, human written history is 6000 years old, and quite probably all human history (not just written history) is 6000 years old. Whether you believe God created us 6000 years ago or that is when we evolved, human history is what is 6000 years old.

Earth is about 6,000 years old, a figure arrived at by tracing the biblical genealogies, and not 4.5 billion years.

The Grand Canyon was formed not by erosion over millions of years, but by flood waters in a matter of days or weeks and that dinosaurs and man once coexisted, and dozens of the creatures -- including Tyrannosaurus Rex -- were passengers on the ark built by Noah, who was a real man, not a myth.

I had a T Rex running around my yard!

Criticisms of Young Earth creationism
Young Earth creationism was abandoned as a mainstream scientific concept over 150 years ago. While many mainstream scientists respect it as a faith position, they contend that it is little more than that and regard attempts to prove it scientifically as being little more than religiously motivated pseudoscience. In 1997, a poll by the Gallup organisation showed that 5% of US scientists believed in Young Earth creationism; however, not all creationists are YECs.

Some subscribe to Old Earth creationism, which posits an act of creation that took place millions or billions of years ago.

Most likely the earth is much more than 6000 years old. You sound like you are referring to information that you have received that man has been on the earth for 6000 years. This amount of time was reached according to different scriptures in the Bible. Many people have mistakenly thought that when the bible says God created the earth in six days, they feel it means 6 different literal 24 hour periods. This is not necessarily the case. When the Bible uses the word "day" many times it is referring to a period of time rather than a literal 24 hour day. Such as when it says things like "in the days of our forefathers" or "in Noah's day". These are referring to periods of time that were longer than just 24 hours. Knowing how long (from studying science) it takes for things on the earth to form, we could rightly assume that the earth is much older than just 6000 years.

wow a lot of crack pots in here it seems. but the world is 4.5 billion years old and there is proof of life past 25,000 years and we have the bones of dinosuars and we also have proof of life before what you call the bible era which is about 4000 years ago give or take some years. but to many people we know for a fact the world is a lot older than what people see today. proof of evolution proof of evomental changes and even changes in land masses. even atlantis is reported to be closer to 11,000 years ago or even farther back than that. so if you want to believe your bible thats fine but i think science proves that we as humans are far older than you can imagine we are.

There are isotopes of common elements that break down at very specific rates. One of these isotopes, Carbon-14, has a rate of breaking down, or half-life, of 5730 years. The rate of formation of Carbon 14 appears to be constant. We can therefore measure the percentage of Carbon 14 in an object, say the bones found in in a dig, and compare the perentage of Carbon 14 with the equilibrium level found today. This is how we date things thousands of years in the past.

After one half-life, half of the original substance remains. After two half lives, one quarter of the substance remains. The substance is thought to be completely decayed after 5 half-lives. This gives us a window of dating greater than 25,000 years.

Sorry kid...
When you find human foot prints where a behemoth has stepped on the print, it does make it hard to say they were only 6000 years old.

Try to understand this:
The "AND" in verse 2 of Genesis 1 means that a lot more is said than written!
