As Forest Gump would say, "My Momma says, stupid is as stupid does". What does that mean? WHO CARES! Its just a stupid saying!
God loves people who love him and no special intellect is required. I would suspect if God loved any certain class of intellect more than the other, it would be the mentally handicap who know not evil or good, the just know love.

27But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
19For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.
20Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

Jesus knows you better than you know yourself, so he knows you're not stupid. And yes, he loves you enough to die for you. He loves you as if there were no one else on earth to love.
