Religious fervor in the US is at the highest it has ever been, except for a brief period in the 50s as a backlash against 'godless' communism.
I think it started as a delayed reaction to Vietnam and Watergate, when people began to lose confidence in political leaders and started to wonder why. Evangelicals took advantage of that to claim that the US was spiraling into decay because we had turned our backs on god. Reagan jumped on that bandwagon and won partly because of it, and other politicians have jumped on as a result, which just adds fuel to the fire.
Can the trend reverse? Yes, I think it can, and perhaps already has begun. A lot of people have become disillusioned with government again as a result of the Iraq war and the police state legislation that followed in the aftermath of 9/11. Once you question authority in one regard, it tends to spill into other regards as well.
Time will tell.

If mankind does not destroy religion, religion will destroy mankind.
Look to any nation or group that was based on organized religion to see the truth of this. If they don't destroy themselves from within, they are forced to find others to destroy.
When humanity finally tosses the childish notion of religion onto the ash-heap of history, then and ONLY then will we know peace.

That question is the religious equivalent to;
" Do gun's kill people, or do people kill people?"
How can religion do anything at all on its own when not fueled by idiocy and stupidity, dogma and prejudice? Religion is not really the problem, the zealots are the problem! The kinds of people who will adopt any cause to vent their ignorance. The religion is not important or necessary even but is just so happens that there is a religion for every different kind of intolerance. Strange huh?
I say bring it on! Let it all come down and let me go home already! personally, Im waiting for it!

I agree completely. You can never tell who will win the battle of wits between religion and man, but in the US it does seem that religion has a nice head start. If the US keeps going as it is, it will be a continuous Church service and all "logic and reason" will be gone forever along with all of the intellect of the US's human population.

we are able to verify that some fake religions like the JW;s are beginning off to interrupt up and could quickly be uncovered through fact the cult that have continuously been. The JW's have taught that on many proved fake dates the tip of the era of the rule of thumb by the Gentiles could end then been forced to make use of dates like 1914 for something, like changing the date Christ got here and took up his throne from 1884 to 1914. !925 and 1975 have merely been blamed on the different sheep and not regular as considered one of their many fake predictions. I anticipate to verify the JW proceed to slowly die as merely yet another cult progressed by a guy and not something to do with God.

Mankind will destroy itself. Although religion causes many problems in society, there are still many more causes of society's eventual demise.
