Active Virus protection will slow down your computer. The big box programs like Norton and McAfee a famous for being exceptionally a slow down problem. Try a simpler Virus scanner without the bloated security center bundled with the big box programs.

AVG has a good personal use Anti-Virus product available at: http://free.grisoft.com

Avast Antivirus, also for non-commercial use is available at: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Both these products include active background scanning modules!

Bitdefender has an excellent scanner and removal tool but does not have any active background protection in the free version that is available at: http://www.bitdefender.com/site/Main/view/Download-Free-Products.html

not sure what you mean it is "still slow". but im guessing you mean your computer is slow. you probably have so manys tuf on your computer. Go to start>control panel>add/remove progrmas and uninstall all the stuff you dont need. Then run your virusscan and delete whatever it finds. Then go to www.download.com and download adaware and spybot search and destroy. Run their scans and delete all they find. Delete all your history and temoporary internet files from your IE go to tools>internet options and click the delete buttons. next go to www.download.com and download tweaknow reg cleaner and run its scan and only delete all the ones that are "safe" to delete(they are labeled). Once you do all that do a disk defragmenter. It should be faster.

Antivirus software can slow down your computer a little bit but if its more serious than that than you need to put some spy wear scanners and scan for spywear because spywear will slow down your computer .Windows has a new free spywear scanner called windows defender. If your computer is windows it will work great.Dont forget also you need to clean your internet fills out to got to control panel, than clean disc space ect.

Did you try checking the system for spyware? Viruses and spyware are different so your anti-virus protection may not detect spyware. I would use Spybot Search and Destroy and AdAware, both are good and free! Hope that helps.
