Most models of global warming predict a catastrophic outcome by the end of this century. Our children and grandchildren will live in a world that has become hell. 50% of all animal and plant species will not be able to evolve quickly enough to adapt to the changes caused by global warming and will go extinct. Likewise, at least 80% of all human beings will also go extinct.
So, if this was a factor in your reproduction would you choose to have fewer children so that you wouldn't be bringing more people into this world to suffer the catastrophe that is even now just beginning? Or, would you try to maximize the survival of your genes by having as many children as possible? Please explain your choice in as much detail as possible.

I am profoundly disappointed by the sheer lack of concern demonstrated by most of the answers. And, even if this is merely a hypothetical situation, the inability to respond with an in-depth answer that seriously takes the scenario into consideration, reveals a profound lack of imagination on all your parts. Thanks for nothing!

I think I would have less, and raise them with the conciseness of helping the planet, planting trees, recycling, not wasting unnecessary water and gas.

I can honestly say that the World seemed so terrible with crime, Countries fighting, sickness, global warming, and so on, that I really never thought My first born would ever get a chance to start school. I had been led to believe that there would be no hope of Him ever seeing the inside of a School, because We were in such desperate straits. I am very happy to say He did get that chance. The world did not collapse, and in a couple of years His Son will begin School.
There is always something happening somewhere. And I have talked to many Mom's who said they believed almost the same thing, somewhere along Life's road. If You want to have Children, then have Them. They may get to live a full Life. Just teach Them about the Earth, and how They can help, to make Our Planet, and Our World a better place. Just do the best You can to Protect Them, and keep Them Safe.
God Bless

A Catholic answer would be to have as many children as possible in hopes that one of them would be smart enough to create a solution to the problem.
However, I feel that one child per family is a good idea. Look at how much dynamic growth happened in China when they went to the 'one child' policy.
It would be great if people who cannot conceive without help would just adopta child needing a home at that point instead of going to expensive, herculean lengths to attempt to have children.
There are already too many humans on the planet. Earth cannot sustain this number of people indefinitely, even without global warming so allowing a little natural attrition through fewer births is much better than big wars, huge die-offs due to famine, disease, or global warming issues such as excessive heat or cold, tidal waves in coastal areas and reduced potable water availability.
I hope that provides some food for thought.

Well the state of the world is one of the reasons that I decided never to have children (my sister also agrees and has decided not to have children as well), but, many other factors also helped us to make that decision. The world is in moral decay and it's getting harder to make a living to even try and support having any children. Not to mention that most marriages end in divorce, and probably a third of those who are fathers will be deadbeats. I know it sounds a bit harsh but truth hurts. I am raising step children and trying to do the best I can but I fear for them sometimes being out in this predatory dog eat dog kinda world.

First, I think it's very premature to predict that the world is going to be such a cataclysmic disaster at the end of the century. Man, being an intelligent being, will figure out ways to deal with climate and environment. Second, I wouldn't plan the # of kids you want to have based on this stuff. I'm sure glad I had my kids (and I hope they have kids of their own).

I would have more children. The reason, well, I could really care less about gobal warming. I have other things on my mind. I already have one kid, and I'm sure he don't care either. He would just like for mommy to get pregnant. And they said that whole Y2K thing was going to happend and it didn't, so why worry.
