the best way? There is never a good way.
But if you are going for the honest respectful way (ie she won't call you a lying toerag for dumping her via text to all her mates) face to face is the best.
Ask if you can have a private talk and say that you are not happy and that although you like her you don't like her enough to continue the relationship. Then end it there - don't get dragged into the one last kiss, but why scenario just walk away knowing you did it properly.
Good luck x x

That depends on how serious the relationship is and how close you are. If it's oly a casual relationship, try explaining that you can't see things developing but would like to stay friends (even if you don't, it softens the blow!). If it's a serious relationship, setting aside a couple hours to talk things through and explain why you want to end it. Finishin with someone is never, ever a nice thing and if you've been on the receiving end you'll know there is never really a right way of doing it.

I agree - it can be tactful to say "Its not you, you are a great person, its me....."
I think it is always hard to dump someone, even if there has only been one date, but I notice you say "partner" - so I'm wondering how long you've been together, etc.
General advice would be, say it to them gently but firmly, direct to their face. Be kind, but don't change your mind if they cry, scream or whatever. Just keep saying "I am sorry, but I think it's best that we end this relationship......"
I once tried to end a long term relationship with a poem. It took me hours to write it.
He didn't get the message - people are often in denial, so you need to be straight with tem, but kind too.
Good luck!

be honest about how you feel and it will be allot easier in the future if you ever continue to speak or cross paths, time is a great healer for both parties involved in any relationship and life goes on so being honest will keep respect for both of you. good luck.

tell them straight, its easier, less painful and at least they then know exactly what is going on rather than guessing or hoping that its not as bad as there thinking!!
