It is not true that stressful situation bring out the true person. It is true that Combat brings out the needs in a person. Plus the situation of a bird in the hand... First and last, unless some one has been there and done that they are not speaking from experience, they are spouting off based on the way they believe life should be. The experience you are talking about brings out one of two things. One is living for today, and the other is invincibility. I was of the second. Combat take a toll on everyone involved. That includes the loved ones. You say you are worried sick about his safety. He, on the other hand, is worried sick about his and those around hims safety. because with out them, he does not survive. You are distant and safe, he and the others are not. Listen to these people then ask, how many of them have seen the body parts of the person they had a beer with. just last night, fly through the air and they are not there any longer. Think about that. He may come home, but will he ever come back.

Overcoming stress is different for everybody -- there are literally dozens of techniques that can help with this problem.
A hidden effect of stress is the damage it does to the body. B-Complex vitamins are notorious for helping prevent or lessen the damange wrought on the body, by stress, and helping to relieve it -- I'd say take a few B-vitamins.
You may also want to invest in a hematite ring. I typically don't believe in the metaphysical, but I definitely wear hematite rings -- I feel that they help to absorb the stress I enocounter.
When I'm particularly stressed, I either go for a walk, or bake. Some people exercise, nap . . . find some fancy little hobby and endule -- take some "you" time.

1. Eat a good meal- First recharge yourself with calories
2. Go to the gym,
3. Exercise, run on a treadmill for like 20 minutes,
4. Do some weight and think about positive things from your work all along... make your muscles all over sore... (3 and 4 helps produce Endorphin- helpes prevent pain and relieve stress) Making your muscle sore means more muscle to grow.
5. Then take a nice hot bath
6. Then sleep- yes you need this.
7. Wake up next morning (given that it's a day off), talk to a friend, complain a little
8. Watch TV (Please no work-related show)
9. Reward yourself, Spend some money, buy yourself something you've wanted for long time, please forget about saving money at this time- this gives you sense of power.
10. Relax until next challege pops up in your life! be Ready!

a vigorous game of squash followed by a sauna and steam. Works great for hangovers too!
also, ask yourself is the stress at work really necessary or is your employer taking the piss by asking you to do too much or not treating you with respect? Sometimes it's better to take control by resigning if the work's not going to get any better. Sometimes you look back when you're in a new job that doesn't make these demands of you and think how did I ever put up with that sh*t at work?

Read a book on your break, exercise before or after work, take a hot bath after work, get a koosh ball to squeeze (pretend it's the boss's head) OR sit down, close your eyes & thank GOD you have a job to be stressed about!

It is possible that you are suffering from high blood pressure. Sure signs of high blood pressure are, red cheeks, a tendency to work a lot and complain a lot. Keep away from red meat for a while. If you can not jog take the time to walk for a few minutes in the park every day. A vegetarian diet for a few days can be helpful.

a massage, or relax in a jacuzzi at a local gym. Reike is also good, sends you to sleep. You sound like you need to chill, I do Indian head massage, which is also very relaxing with oils and music.
Hope you relax, if you cant do any of the above, put a calm CD on and have a drink

everyone deals with their stress differently. my best friend has a good cry...it lets all of her emotions out. i bake....especially a pie or bread because i can work the dough and let out all those stressful thoughts. you just have to find what works for you....but the worst thing is to not let those feelings and such out because you will get overwhelmed and probably have a mental breakdown...which does happen to all of at some point, but it is much easier to not do that.
