I guess diesel will suit you best. If I may, I would like to give you the opportunity to save big time on whichever one you use. I would like to tell you about a tablet which I use in my petrol car, a Nissan Primera, my Harley V ROD, which is petrol also, but I also use it in my three vans, which are all diesel. This tablet is saving me between 15%-20% of my fuel, which is a very big saving, especially in the three vans. It can be seen on www.fuelxfrank.myffi.biz . I really do hope I have been of service to you, and best of Irish Luck in whichever you choose. Frank.

Diesel - the engines are more robust, and rev slower so wear out less quickly. Plus, you'll not have to carry as much fuel due to the lower consumption, and the fuel is less dangerous to carry (no explosive vapour) even if it is rather smelly.
Get something with an old-tech engine with an all-mechanical fuel pump etc. so there are virtually no electrics to worry about. Modern diesel engines that meet latest emissions regulations are more reliant on electronics, and more sensitive to fuel quality.

I'd stick with the petrol as it is much easier to get if fixed should it quit. With diesel your SOL and the new ones have just as much electronics on them as the petrol.
