I was surprised that someone was offended by the phrase "it was screwed up" - they took it as if I had used the four-letter "F" word. (If you don't know what that is, please don't answer this question.)

This was a customer service agent, who objected to the language, did not want to write it down the way I said it.
It made me wonder how many people feel the same way.

So the question is: if you are offended by the "F" word, would you be offended by the phrase "it was screwed up"?

I'm offended by the "F" word depending how it's used. If someone is using it to intentionally be offensive (like saying "Go f yourself," or "You're an f-ing liar," then that's offensive - because that's how they mean it. Or, if someone uses it in every sentence just because they think they're being tough or cool, that's not something I like. I consider that pretty low-class. Using it once in a while for emphasis, like when something breaks (as in "Oh, f!) - no big deal.

"It was screwed up" is the same as "It was messed up" and is not offensive. If you say "It was f-ed up" in a professional setting, that's not appropriate, just because using profanity is not professional.

wow. That is a little overboard, I think. I am not offended by the F word, but I don't even think they are the same. If someone takes the phrase "screwed up" to mean the same as the F word, they have sex on the brain! Sounds like they have issues!
