It's actually quite controversial. There are a lot of Christians that have no problem with alcohol and there are many who feel it is a sin.
I see nothing wrong in an occasional drink if you can handle it and stick to moderation. But I do not drink around those would have a hard time with it.
For the twenty first here in the US Our kids go have a blast at a party or paintball fight or you name it. There's lots of fun without drinking. I think some of the kids of my friends go to the clubs where you have to be 21 and just dance and drink coke.

Actually they can do anything they want to do as can anyone else. But the difference is they choose not to do those things that are displeasing to God. So no Christian would want to use any alcohol as it is something that God detests and tells us not to do. Wine is a mocker, He says, those that are deceived by them are not wise. Stay away from the wine and strong drink as in the end it bites like a serpent and stings like an adder. Nowhere does it say you should indulge in any alcoholic drink but only the unfermented fruit of the vine, pure grape juice. What to do on your twenty first birthday? Have a party and have some good grape juice fresh from the vine, thank God you got that far and celebrate being alive. YOu don't have to have alcohol to have a party or to be happy. That is a delusion of Satan so you will draw away from God and into his trap. Actually without the alcohol, you can remember what happened and have lots more fun and wake up the next morning feeling really good instead of waking with a hangover and a headache that just won't quit with all the nausia and all that goes with it. Would you rather feel great or feel lousy the morning after?

Sure, Christians can drink! Ever been to an Irish wake? Go to a an old time barn dance where the Pentecostal men are sneaking out to drink moonshine, while their women fume inside?
A Finnish (Christian) wedding can last three days, all the food and drinks are plentiful.
Almost every wedding I've ever been to included plenty of champagne and other drinks.
So, if a Christian drinks or not on his/her 21st, it's pretty much their own decision and doesn't have anything to do with religion.
Unless you're a Mormon.

I wouldnt (drink, I mean). I used to think that God instructed us not to get "drunk on wine" because it "leads to debauchery", the latter being the main reason why. But I realised the implications of drinking.
(let me clarify that my use of 'you' is generic) You know, if you drown your sorrow in beer, it suggests that you are not relying on God, so much so that you need to turn to artificial means of relieving your sorrow.
I dont see why as Christians our twenty-first birthdays shouldnt be something special, like everyone else, just that I feel that I should always remember to honour God in everything I do, and do things that please Him. He is the life-giver, so I would thank God for my birthday, for my life thus far. That will be the reason for celebration, rather than my living another year, being older, gaining independence, etc
By the way, the wine mentioned in the Old Testament of the Bible is used for medicinal purposes and is very very diluted.

Jesus did say drinking was acceptable but only in moderation. The birthday party thing is a different matter though. As it turns out, early Christians (Jesus, his apostles, and their early congregations) never celebrated their birthdays. And in fact, the Bible only shows two birthdays (Pharaoh and Herod), both of which were celebrated by pagans and painted in a very bad light (murders occurred at both). Suggests that birthdays are something Christians shouldn't celebrate.

Why not? I am a recovering drunk. I am one that shouldn't have drank alcohol period.
If a person is responsible and their drinking, even on the 21st birthday drinking to get drunk is too much. Enjoying a beer or glass of wine for a normal drinker is OK. But if you get to a point where you have no control you've gone too far.

Please only listen to the sensible Christian responses. Yes, Christians can drink in moderation. If ya don't, well more power to ya, but DON't put your heavy chains of unbiblical law ( backed by twisting scripture) on any other man. When Christ was on earth they called Him a drunkard and gluten, of which He was neither. Yes, He drank wine and ate well, but He was without sin. And as for all those quacks debating how wine back then was not as strong, maybe there is partial truth to that, but if wine could get ya drunk back than, it surely was close to the same potency of wine today. * not maybe the same, but had intoxicating effects like wine of today.

I'm a Christian and I drink occasionally. (I haven't gotten in many, many years.) For my 21st birthday, I spent it in the hospital following a miscarriage. Not everyone celebrates their 21st birthday with the need to drink.
