It's hard to remember, but I think I went straight to my orthodontist- I didn't need a referral.

In most cases, you have to get a referral from your dentist-- either way, you have to liase with both parties in order to get your teeth the way you want them- usually extractions are needed and you need to keep a keen eye on oral health, as some people can find it tricky to maintain the same level of oral hygeine with braces.

I'd say dentist first.

go to a dentist and get all of the normal stuff taken care of first, besides, he has to give you the referral to an orthodontist anyway!! then when you go to the ortho, he should be able to tell you all the stuff you need to know about the braces plan!!! good luck and hope you don't get stuck with them as long as i have!!

She should go to the dentist first, because they will have to do a lot of cleaning to get rid of cavities if any. THey will not put any braces if there are cavities. Trust me on this I have been there before. I have braces.

dentist...an orthodontist will not put braces on someone who has 15 yrs worth of plaque and who knows what else is wrong. seriously though, they need to worry about saving their teeth before making them straight.
