Apparently, Andrea was raised Catholic and then met her husband and then were both influenced by a traveling evangelist, who preached Fundamentlist Christianity, don't know if it was a specific church or some non-denominational charismatic group.

According to the excellent links posted by other people on this thread (one of them should get the 10 points for best answer), it looks as if the Yates family did not attend a church. They followed the teachings of a travelling evangelist.

What's tragic in this situation is that Andrea had very little control over her life and this resulted in the problems that were so severe that she felt she had no other choice than to kill her children. This is not the problem of religion, but in a person not understanding the teachings of their beliefs.

The Yates family did not belong to the Church of Christ, where the children's funeral was held, as is widely assumed. They described themselves as nondenominational Christians.

I'm with JAMco on this one, it doesn't matter, her church wasn't going around preaching murdering your own own children as a good thing. I don't think there's a church in existence, no matter how good it's teachings, that hasn't had a psycho or two in it's membership.

It'd be interesting to know, but I'm not sure that it matters. That type of thing is just messed up and they have got to be messed up in the head. Don't blame the religion, blame the person(s). No excuses!
