Hi there,

I have been battling with lupus for several years along with some other autoimmune dissorders as well. I have found wonderful support locally and online. I think it is important to talk to people who actually know what you are going through and since lupus (and it's treatments) can affect your body is so many ways and affects many people differently, that support is essential in dealing with it in a possitive way, which is sometimes easier said than done. I also have two younger children, and sometimes feel llike they are taking care of me rather than the other way around. I remember when I first started getting sick, being so scared because I knew nothig about the disease and had lost a family member to it...but the more I learned and talked to my doctors the more strength and understanding I had to fight it.

It is also important to find a rhuematologist or team of doctors (sometimes we see several different specialists) who you feel very comfortable with and answers your questions well. If you are ever uncomfortable with a treatment, it doesn't hurt to get another opinion because some doctors will treat more or less aggressively than others. I have met so many people in the support groups who have had it for many years with and many without serious complications and some that are even in remission, that once suffered life threatening lupus. I just wanted to send you some links I've found helpful and I'll keep you and your son in my prayers. Take care!

Here are some Shaklee products that have helped others deal with this condition quite successfully. Very important to seek out products of highest quality. All vitamins and supplements are definitely not equal.

GLA Complex: nature's steroid - VERY IMPORTANT FOR LUPUS
Vitamin C: antioxidant; also anti-inflammatory
B Complex: strengthens glandular functions; reduce malabsorption; nourishes nervous system
Alfalfa Complex: anti-inflammatory; strengthens kidneys (alfalfa leaf powder tablets...NOT SPROUTS)
Nutriferon & Optiflora: build & strengthen the immune system
Zinc: protects skin & organs; promotes healing
Garlic Complex: immune system enhancer; protects enzyme systems

For more info or questions, please feel to contact me.

Best Wishes

For what it's worth, my sister in law has lupus and has been living with it for literally decades. This is not necessarily a fatal condition.

I also feel compelled to tell you a story about the mother of one of the kids in my son's class at school. Shortly after he was born she was diagnosed with matastistic(sp?) breast cancer, a condition that is usually fatal within 3 years. Her son is now 9, she is still living, appears quite healthy, and has an incredible depth of spirit. She attributes her survival in part to positive visualizations of her attending her son's college graduation and to the art of "gathering acquired chi" (the life force we all share) through the study of various Tai Chi and healing Qi Gong arts.

i don't know much about lupus, but i think it is debilitating. Find a local support group, talk w/your doctor, get counseling, develop a health and nutrition program, pray, meditate, spend time w/your son, friends and enjoy each day....Best Wishes to you. God is walking with you.

You have just said where your strength is - your 15 year old. He is the reason you go on living. Think about his graduations, proms, etc. Think about seeing him get married, think about his first baby - your granchild. That should be what keeps you living.

Are there any support groups that you can find out about? Do you practice any religion? Do you have friends, family? Have you talked to your doctor about finding help? good luck.

consider the effect NOT fighting would have on your child. if he feels as though he isn't worth you giving all you have, his esteem would be shattered. and you would be teaching him that fighting for the best life has to offer is worthless.
i'm sorry you are in this position. i wish you well.

well, lets pray that you respond to treatment so progression could at least be lessened. it's a very serious disease... your greatest fear would be your kidney going haywire so take extra care of your kidneys.
