Would you say they are seriously corrupt or working well? What do you think of this quote? "What the government gives it controls?
This question is not limited to Christians I am just asking them as we share the same beliefs.
Peace.

I try to abide by what the Bible says pertaining to the governments.

Romans 13:1-4 says:
" Let every soul be in subjection to the superior authorities, for there is no authority except by God; the existing authorities stand placed in their relative positions by God. Therefore he who opposes the authority has taken a stand against the arrangement of God; those who have taken a stand against it will receive judgment to themselves. For those ruling are an object of fear, not to the good deed, but to the bad. Do you, then, want to have no fear of the authority? Keep doing good, and you will have praise from it; for it is God’s minister to you for your good."

Then verse 7 says:
"Render to all their dues, to him who [calls for] the tax, the tax; to him who [calls for] the tribute, the tribute; to him who [calls for] fear, such fear; to him who [calls for] honor, such honor."

Those Scriptures pretty much speak for themselves: We are to respect the "superior authorities" (as the Bible calls them) and be obedient, and not rebellious.

However, we are entitled to feel as if they are corrupt.
Take a father that doesn't do very much for his kids. He tells them what to do, but he doesn't really give them all they need (or maybe he's an alcoholic or something).
The children are entitled to feel as if he isn't doing things the way he should, YET they still respect him.
So the same is with us. We see all the injustice of these governments. We see abuse of power at times. But we are still to respect them and their position.

Yet, Jesus also told us at Matthew 12:17:
"Pay back Caesar's things to Caesar, but God's things to God."
So the worship, and the allegiance that we owe to God should remain for Him only. We still maintain respect for the governments that God has allowed to stand in their place, but our allegiance or devotion should go to Jehovah God, the one that allows them to do what they do, and the One that rules over, not just the world, but the Universe.

As far as human governments go, they will be no more after God's Kingdom takes over.
We pray
"Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified. Let your kingdom come. Let your will take place, as in heaven, also upon earth." (Matthew 6:10)
So when we pray for God's Kingdom to come, or to be established, we are praying for the time when this will happen:
"And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be brought to ruin. And the kingdom itself will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite."
There are three important points of that Scripture to keep in mind.
1) God's Kingdom will be established "in the days of those kings", or while these rulers and governments are still existing.
2) It will "crush and put an end to them" because they are (to be honest) corrupt and worsening as we draw nearer to God's great day, Armageddon. Armageddon, as many Christians know, is when Jehovah will have had enough. He will deliver his people from the corrupt rule of these human rulers.
and 3) It will be an everlasting Kingdom, because it will for one, not be ruled by man, but by God's Son, Jesus Christ, our King.
Also 2 Peter 3:13 says
"But there are new heavens and a new earth that we are awaiting according to his promise, and in these righteousness is to dwell."

So while we are awaiting these things, we still respect them and be obedient, but we should be Christians first before an "American", or "Canadian", etc.

I think most governments are corrupt. They are not providing for the care of their citizens, especially their poorest. The poor are always the ones who get screwed.
Jesus told us to take care of the poor. And in America, we're taking care of the rich. That's unjust and wrong.
