hairy tongue is not unusual. Use a toothbrush to clean your tongue twice a day and use good mouth wash after brushing teeth three times a day.

It's usually darker, and the actual name of the problem is "Black Hairy Tongue." (Look it up. Ihat's the real name!) I use a hydrogen peroxide rinse twice a day to treat mine when it happens (HP rinse is gross, gross, gross, but works), but you may want to contact your doctor. I also eat several containers of yogurt each day, and hold each bite in my mouth a little before swallowing. Usually clears it up in a day or two. (Thrush is quite different, but ask your doc if uncertain.)

It sounds like thrush! It's a form of yeast infection. I'd head to the walk-in clinic or your doctor's office pretty quickly. If it is thrush it doesn't go away on its own and it can be pretty painful (it can also spread, like down your throat). It's a pretty easy treatment - I had it while I was nursing my daughter and they just give you this medicine to swish around your mouth and gargle with. It tastes nasty, but it works.

and STOP SMOKING!!!

If it's hairy and yellow, I'd go to the doctors.
