I really want to get a dog and have done for ages, at first my parents said no but now they are saying that they will review the situation on the 23rd of september. My mum is much more sceptical and says that i should be wishing that we won the lottery instead as it costs so much to keep one and that are house is too small. Does anyone know how much it would cost to keep a dog each month and wether a three bedroom house, small garden with two cats is big enough to keep a small dog? Thanx!

Really easy question go to the pet store or grocery store and look on the back of the bag tells how much kibble per day devide by weight of the bag you"ll get the monthly cost. I have a medium size dog that I feed cracked wheat, hamburger and pumpkin pieces cut up and cooked in the pressure cooker that is really cheap and shes healthy 5 years old and never sick. You should have a dog its not that expensive at all in comparison to the companionship you get in return.

Well, your parents know their financial situation better than you do. They may recognize that there is more expense to keeping a dog than just feeding it - it will also need regular vet care and grooming (if you do it yourself, you still have to pay for supplies).

Have you considered would happen if the dog gets seriously ill or injured? Are your parents willing to pay a major vet bill? If not, would you be prepared to have the dog euthanized instead?

Also, will the cats accept the dog? Three animals in a small house can be chaotic, messy, and depending on the number of people, crowded!

It would probably cost anywhere from 20-40 dollars a month after your initial visit to the vet. I also think you have enough room to keep a small dog.
