There is nothing you can do to stop fleas jumping on your cat or dog, just use the treatment from the vet once a month, hoover every day and comb them through every day so you keep on top of the problem.

Treat them with Frontline of Stronghold on a regular basis. I live in a semi-rural area, and none of my 5 cats ever gets fleas because I buy these products Dont ever bath your cat; it wont kill fleas or their eggs, and can encourage dreadful skin conditions and allergies.

Don't let them outside, and get a flea treatment from your vet like frontline. It lasts for 3 months and its kills the eggs. If you already have them in your house you should probably move your pets and yourself out for a few hours and set off a flea bomb.

DON'T LET THEM GO OUTSIDE, please. My cat is 14 and has never had fleas because he doesn't go outside. There are special meds available for cats. Go to a site like Entirely Pets where you can get them at a reduced price. I do that for my outdoor/indoor dogs and they've never had a flea on them (10 and 11 years old) either.

I use frontline for my three cats and so far they have not had fleas for two years despite the fact we live next to a farm and loads of other cats

shave your cat though failing that, buy a flea collar, get it injected or buy drops that protect from fleas that you drop on the back of thier neck.

I buy 'Stronghold' from my vet. It also protects from a certain type of worm too. It is a liquid that goes on the back of the neck once a month. I found it better than Frontline
