For where I live and where I work I need to learn it.
I was wondering if anyone knew a good book or system to help me.

I know two systems that i think can be good for you.

one is called Pimsleur, its a set of audio lessons about 30 minutes (there are 90 lessons) each where you listen and repeat. its especially good for spoken Portuguese... it will get you to a point where you can speak a little and understand a little (depending on how much time you put into it)

i actually used their system for french (although i also speak Portuguese and heard the lessons in Portuguese too).

just type in google: pimsleur Portuguese
one place i found it is here http://www.multilingualbooks.com/pims-port.html

the other system i know is called the Rosetta stone
http://www.rosettastone.com

it is a system that shows you pictures and lets you select by the words in Portuguese... it is possible to subscribe and use it on line or buy a CD...

its better if you want to improve your vocabulary, but i think its hard to learn to speak with this system. its more comprehensive in that it gives you more vocabulary, all the colors, numbers and its also visual so its a different way of learning.

i recommend more the pimsleur, but you can choose what fits you.

if you have questions you can contact me... i speak pretty well Brazilian Portuguese and happy to share what i know

Yes, and no longer rather, however form of. It began whilst I used to be five and drove a snowmobile for the primary time. Then I moved onto ATVs and through 12 or thirteen I used to be using dad's truck out within the nation. I used to be in general 14 the primary time I drove on a town avenue, and I had my allow as quickly as I became sixteen (minimal age in my state). My moms and dads persisted to train me to force till I obtained my license. The following summer time they made me get a task at an in a single day summer time camp, so they did not fear approximately me putting out with my fellow teenage peers and going in quandary. They did not desire to have got to force me backward and forward to paintings- however when you consider that they ordinarilly compelled me to paintings there they needed to get me there by some means. My grandma simply occurred to have an unused automobile sitting round, in order that they gave me that for the summer time. When camp ended and university began, they under no circumstances requested for the automobile again. I feel at that factor they idea I had earned it- I labored the entire summer time with handiest having a couple of hours off at a time. It used to be nonetheless in my grandma's title regardless that- and it did get taken away for per week or 2 at a time whilst I obtained in quandary. I saved the automobile till I used to be 22 and purchased a brand new (to me) automobile.
