The beer is quite expensive, also in the supermarkets...
In overall, the alcohol based drinks are quite expensive.
Except for Raki (specialty), Turkish Vodka (water with a little Vodka taste), and Turkish Gin (bweeek). Those 3 things are cheap their and not very good.

Been there many times. Turkey has everything for every budget. Everything is expensive if you go to pimp, sheik clubs, drinks are like $20. BUt you can be at a road side cafe and get it for a $1 as well.
And officer Betty is making wrong assumptions. Obviously she went to this beautiful country with a cocky American attitude and was responded by rude people as well. Turks are wonderful and hospitable people. I am Italian so I know all about barganing. Which is something that happens all through out Europe and definetely in every Mediterranean Country. Just because it does not happen in the US they think it is not cool. But then again how about the US car salesmen?

Yes, horrible people. The beer is alright though. Efes. Not to expensive in the store but pubs and bars charge tourists almost double. I actually bargin for my drinks because I hate getting ripped off by chauvanistic Turks. Although most Turks would rather loss your business then admit they were screwing you and give you a lower price. The only place I would recommend in the Cozy Pub just up the street from the blue mosque. Check the website for the exact address.

I am Turkish. Beer prices changing depending on where you have it. If you go to a trendy club or hotel bars it is something like 7 USD. But if you go to a corner cafe or a standart bar it is 1,5 USD. Oh by the way you should try Efes Beer which you will like.
