I just threw a party for my son, who turned 5 years old. I invited a lot of kids, whose parents were enthusiastic about coming. I had to order the supplies well in advance of the party to ensure they got here on time. They came from the US and I live in Canada. Anyway, less than half showed up. I was unable to get a confirmation from some of these parents after the RSVP date. I was unable to reach them. Of the parents who called me back to confirm, a couple of them didn't show up. In the future I am limiting the party to 5 children. It was a lot of work, money spent and headaches. I have a lot of left over activities based on a dinosaur theme, including dinosaur bingo, and dinosaur painting activities (which we didn't get a chance to do because the other games went overtime, and it was too hot). I plan to give the dinosaur painting activities out to the children who actually came, as part of their loot bags. After that I still have a lot left. Any ideas?

The party was a great success, nonetheless. The 6 children who came had a great time. There was a lot of food and games and prizes, including a pinata.

I hang onto my extras and use them when one of my kids are having a friends over or for lunch on a boring day. It's amazing how exciting that can be for them. Also, don't open all the packages until you need them so you have the chance to return items (if it's worth it for a package of plates!)

I stopped inviting the whole world to parties and limiting it to 1 guest for how old my kids are (7 guests for his 7th bday). It's a lot easier to follow up on RSVP's cause parents don't follow through for some reason. Caution-EVERY kid will show up for a sleepover!

Personally i would sell them on eBay. It's amazing the things you can sell on there. If not save them for a day your son is exceptionally good. Throw a mini party. Or if your son ever has sleep overs with his friends, those things should entertain them.

Find another parent with a child about the same age. See if they might want to buy them from you for their own parties. A lot of parents will buy from you because you've already thought this through and they won't have to.

I would donate them to a local school or charity. If you are not feeling all that charitable, then sell them on Ebay. You can sell anything on ebay.

If you have enough left, you could try and sell them on ebay to get some of your money back.
