If it's illegal to travel in a car w/o seatbelts, why do people still do it? What do people have against restraining themselves and their kids?

No "if" to it, illegal in all states. For the same reason people speed, or break any other law. I drive a wrecker, and I've seen first hand what happens to children when they are not belted in but allowed to run around in the car. You hear people tell you of someone who was 'saved' because they were not wearing a seat belt, and that becomes their excuse. But I have seen seat belts and air bags save lives. It the law, click it or ticket.

I don't wear a seatbelt as a statement of rebellion against the system.

Because they're idiots that don't give a crap about themselves, their kids, or other road users.
