CRM stands for Customer Relationship Management and most any business could find a use for it although you will find it primarily the sales or marketing departments.
The primary use of CRM is managing customer contact information in a way that you will minimize missed opportunities. For example, A car salesman may have a customer who told hiim they are going to buy a car when they get their tax return. The salesman would then put that information in his system along with a note to call the customer mid-February to see if they were still in the market. On the scheduled day the software would pop up a reminder of all of the customers known information along with the scheduled call.
It can also track things such as customer birthdays, employeers, events, pretty much anything and everything you can think of.
Very handy software to have as a business owner.

Places where CRM is used include call centers, social media, direct mail, data storage files, banks, and customer data queries.
