The Coast Guard is exactly what it says, they are basically on top of everything that comes in and out of the USA through the sea.they are the ones that stop all the drugs and anything else illegal from coming in or out of the country. The Navy is a part of the armed forces just like the Airforce and Army. Their job is to protect the shipping lanes, show American sea power and a few other things. The Marines though many of them hate to admit it are a branch of the Navy. A Marine's primary job is to know how to kill. They do have jobs like aviation, computers, and demolition but those are secondary. The Marines basically know how to kick but when they need to.
Now if you are planning to join one it matters on what you want to do. If you don't want to be to far away from home then i would recommend the Coast Guard. If you want to travel and have a wide variety of jobs i would recommend the Navy. If you want to go through the hardest of all the boot camps, learn how to shoot and kill someone a thousand different ways and with the added bonus pretty good amount of jobs. The Marines it is.

Navy and Marines fall under the Dept. of the Navy. Coast Guard used to, but has been reassigned to fall under the Dept of Homeland Security. The Coasties handle the water in and around the United States. The Navy handles the ships for the rest. The Marines are the ones who actually go on land in combat roles. There are some differences, like Navy corpsman going with Marines into combat, but that's basically how it all works.

Marines refer to theirselves as the Men's department of the Navy. Totally different then the Coast Guard. There are some " Green side" Navy, that are with Marines....basically the docs.

The Navy is the Largest of three being its own branch of the Military Along with the AirForce and Army. The Marines used to be part of the Navy but now the are there own Core without a direct link to the Navy. The Coast Guard is not related to either and specifically allotted the responsibility of PROTECTING the United States via the shorelines.

The US Marines are a sub-branch of the Navy. In other words, every Marine is in the navy but not everybody in the navy is a Marine.

The coast guard is a separate service not related to the military.

The Coast Guard usually only patrols the coasts of the U.S. or
a country. The Navy of course is our ability to excersize the
defense of our country on the oceans. And the Marines are the ability of the Navy to put troops on land for defensive purposes.
when we don't have land based troops already in the area.

They are three different armed force divisions. Typically the marines fight guerilla warfare, the navy fight from ships, and the coast guard is simply the police of the oceans.

We are all Americans, who protects fellow Americans. Whether it be on this coast or ones far far away. We all had to take the same oath at boot camp and every 4 to 6 years afterwords. I have nothing but the up most respect for all service personnel serving this great country we call the USA.
After 22 years of serving with the US Coast Guard I can tell you that we are all American Service people. I have been to the Gulf during the first conflict. I have worked with the DEA, Customs and INS on numerous occasions. I have patrolled the waters off North, Central, South America and SE Asia. I have arrested, and testified in several case against some really bad dudes.
God bless America.
