I have a sore throat from having relux so bad in my sleep last nite I woke up at 5 am dreaming I was suffocating and when I finally got my senses about me, it was my stomach acid boiling up into my throat. I almost threw up in my bed.
I am thinking I should probably see about getting this fixed. Has anyone done this procedure or had it themselves? What can you tell me about the post operative result?

I work for a GI doctor and we see this all the time. You need to have a test done. The test is a very quick test. In our office it takes about 5 mins to do one.
You might want to look up Barrett's esophagus. It is where the cells lining the esophagus change and become similar to the cells lining the intestine.
If you have an endoscopy done and they find barretts they will keep a close eye on you and test you every few years. A small number of people that have barretts will develop esophageal cancer.
Reflux or Gerd may also cause certain less common symptoms, such as hoarseness or chronic cough, and sometimes provokes conditions such as asthma.
Sometimes after the test you might have a little sore throat- but recovery time is very little if any.
Please see a doctor and have this test done.

I did not have it done personally but my husband did. He was diagnosed with "barets syndrome" which is an erosion of the esophogus from his acid reflux. He too use to be bad at nite. He is now on medication and is doing so much better. He said the procedure was not bad at all because he was out of it while it was being done. He now gets tested every 3-5 years. Definitely schedule it for early in the morning because you cannot eat for a period of time before the procedure. Good luck!

It will also be critical. Like acknowledged via anyone else, weight acquire can becoe a predicament as good as aspiration into the lungs. Once you spot the Pediatrician, he might refer you to a Pediatric GI. Most most likely, your daughter will accept Reglan (essentially the most perscribed reflux med for youngsters/infants) and some thing like Zantac. The Reglan honestly heals the harm, and the Zantac eases the soreness. I understand how horrifying that is for you. I did not manage reflux myself; however my daughter was once born untimely, and lots of preemies face reflux as an limitation. I'm familar with this knowledge b/c of aid corporations I belong to for preemies. The well information is, extra probably than no longer; infants outgrow the reflux inside within the first yr or so. I desire your daughter feels larger quickly and her appointments pass adequate. I desire your daughter the fine.

Have you tried anything over the counter like Pepcid, Zantac? They even sell Prilosec OTC now. It really works. Start taking one every day and I guarantee you won't wake up with reflux. Also, watch your diet and drink lots of water.

I used to have reflux really bad. I mean where I thought I was having a heart attack. Now I take Pepcid (or whatever is on sale!) and I feel great.
