hi,
i have recently been to one of these, and to be honest although it may seem like a great idea to the company (it saves time indivually interviewing people) i find it to be a bit of a cheap way out of things.
Groups interviews are when a selection of candidates are put in the same room together, and basically asked to act as a team, you maybe asked to do a role play when one of you is a customer and your the staff, or you maybe involved in a team exericise like building a house out of a pack of cards.....
the reason companies do this, is the mainly see how you act in a group situation and your corodination, teamwork and social skills, something which you cant get in a pokey room on a one of one basis.
Just remember to be yourself, join in with everything (try not to be to ott, and push people who maybe a little shyer out of the picture) and smile...
good luck!

I've been to several job interviews. In my experience, what happens is you arrive and you're sent to a waiting room while everyone else arrives. You're sometimes given a short application form to fill in, to basically confirm you've arrived.

While in the waiting room, it's a good idea to talk to anyone else there and get to know them. This helps everyone relax and be calm which, in turn, helps improve your chances of getting the job. But most importantly, the real you gets to shine :-)

When it's time to start, you're usually taken to a larger room. There, the staff will introduce themselves and give a presentation about the company and the duties you'll be expected to do.

You'll then be asked to, one at a time, stand in front of everyone and introduce yourself to everyone.

The type of job I find usually does the whole group thing is related to acting or general entertainment. If that's the type of job you're going for, they will also ask you to give a song or monologue which will last up to 5 minutes.

As for how to behave, just relax and be yourself. They'll be looking for honest and reliable people and f you can show you are such a person, you've nothing to worry about :-)

With what to wear, smart or smart-causal is always the best option :-)

I honestly wish you all the best with your interview :-)

I went to a group interview (though they called it a 'group hug').

We were given a task to do as a group and were observed so that interviewers could assess what role we each took and how we coped in the situation.

The task was that there were some people were stuck in a cave and the water was rising and you had to choose in which order to rescue them. Examples were someone who had been arressted for indecent exposure but was close to finding a cure for rabies, a pregnant women, a 76 year old father of 6, etc, etc, etc.

Best to dress as if going to a formal interview as it gives the impression.

By the way, I got the job, but didn't take it because it was the weirdest inbred company ever.

Group interviews are ridiculous, it beats the purpose of an interview. One on one time to get the know the person. Who cares how I interact with other people at an interview. If I"m going to an interview, I'm not looking to have 10 others with me.

It maybe that several applicants are interviewed at the same time. A bit like a group discussion. I had something like this years ago and it's a difficult one to call as you don't want to dominate the discussion or appear too shy.

As always, be on you very best behaviour and respect everyone no matter how stupid they may appear.

You'll be interviewed by 2 or 3 people (usually managers) with about 7-10 other applicants. This gives management a chance to see how well you interact with other people and how respectful you are to ideas you may not agree with.
Be yourself, dress properly, and smile a LOT (not stupidly though!).
Good LUCK!!!
